Sometimes my eyes and most important my mind "stick" to something, for reasons that i can't explain (Do I need to see a doctor?). This has happened to me, with this "unfinished" bridge, a bridge for loading ships, at Mega Livadi, Serifos island. I kept returning there for days, trying to take diferent photos, at diferent hours of the day, under diferent light conditions, using diferent POV's and compositions, trying colour and b&w, trying diferent techniques. I must have taken more than 100 photos from that place.

*Two things bothered me a lot when taking this picture. First of all, I thought a lot about including this piece of land on the right side (I also have taken a photo without it) but I decided to include it because I wanted to create a feeling like if the bridge was trying to reach somewhere, without ever making it. The second one, was about the horizon, I didn't want it to be seen, I didn't want the diference between sky and sea to be visible so I turned the polarizer to the point that I got the brighter see possible. I wanted to give a "surreal" feeling to the scene, as if everything was in some kind of vacuum. I would like to know your opinion about these 2 issues. Loic (donluicu) has already written his opinion, and I thank him from my heart!

Hi Hercules,
I know very well this side of Serifos... a marvellous and untouched island.
This shot is poetic... so I appreciate the B&W choice!
Thanks for sharing
Chiara

Zdrasti,Neighbour- Susede,:)
I remember this bridge from your previous shot. I find it even more impressive.
What is it a monument to? I guess, the answer is TIME and Political Winds:)
TFS
Stay well
If I ever get rich,I'll come to your country camera in my hand:)

So surrealistic! Looks as if the bridge and the shore are trying to reach each other... to hands in an attempt to touch each other.

hi Hercules
i really love the treatment, but if there a little minus point, it would be the fact that the sky is pretty much the same color than the sea...
without the land on the right part it wuld have been really interesting, but with it i 'm not sure..
regards

Hi Hercules,
Umm, difficult question. Which one to chose? I like the treatment of this one the most but the composition of 'Let the sun rest on his bed of iron' would have been my choice.
Superb quality.
Regards,
Maria

I saw the colored one from yours and have read the story about this bridge, i have to say that this is the best amongst the rest. The bridge, the quality of light and the transformation of color strongly conveys the spirit of the place. excellent!

i like the bridge reaching out to the land... but i might have prefered to see a bit of a horizon... even taken from a little bit lower point that the horizon itself would have been the connection between the two... the sepia treatment is just fab here giritli mou... all the best... bostani...

Hola fiera.

Curiosa foto desde luego...además el B&W le queda genial tio!

Un saludo, Oscar

Geia sou Irakli,
I am totally on the dreamy and surreal side of it, therefore, i would do anything to get rid of the horizon (so i made a WS for you).
Including the land on the left is OK for me, the idea of "starting up somewhere, but ending in eternity" is appealing. But i find the foot of the bridge too much centered, maybe less piece of land would pull it more to the left. Anyway, i wouldn't do any such critique, but you asked :PP
Cheers,
Deniz

Hercules,
very interesting. Very interesting indeed! I was looking a long time into this image and there are several elements that deserve some discussion, but first the tings that I really about this shot. The B&W, the long exposure turning the water in silk and the lack of horizon as division between the sea and the sky. Know the things that requires some discussion are the lines. difficult to say if the bridge should be lower not to obliterate the land to the right or the bridge higher to coincide with the lower line of the land to the right.
The little piece of land to the right is essential for this shot to give that feeling that there is a place to go with that bridge. Taking that piece of land to the right is also a compositional possibility, although with a complete different message and that could be a good theme for a later post of the same area.

Hi Hercules,
It was really interesting reading your note and knowing what went through your mind before taking this shot. I appreciate that. I love the way you took this shot, the fact that there is no horizon gives a look of vastness. The inclusion of the land in the right side also was essential.
Thanks for sharing,

Hi Hercules,

It's interesting to go through your thoughts concerned with this image. I agree with those visions. A shot that has the definite beauty in concept, as you mention.
Well done, all the best.

Hi Hercule,
First of all, don't hesitate about yourself, you are completely healthy, if I were there where you were standing I would probably got frozen for a while in that dreamy place. You seem to be better than me, you managed to survive from freezing and take this shot, not only take photo but also think about it, and make some arrangements. You got my compliments about that...
Photo is a fantastic one. Magically striking... I totally agree with you about horizon issue. It is much more dreamy this way. About "if the bridge was trying to reach somewhere, without ever making it", I totally respect this idea and I like to view this magical scene as you want to feel and show. But it might me interesting too without land on right side. It would seem like a flying bridge, a ghost bridge, passage for ghosts.. I don't know I am just making it up.
Greetings,
Burcu

Hello Hercules, A definite division of sky and sea would have spoiled the feeling of the bridge being suspended in space. The small gap between the bridge and the tip of the land creates tension in the shot - and in the viewer, we long for the gap to be closed!
A haunting,melancholy image.
Best wishes....Maggie

Hi Hercules!
Very nice (and surreal) subject! Excellent opportunity to take 100 pictures, indeed. And you did well trying to do your plan. This picture is really surreal, like the subject suggest. Very good choice! The only problem is that the other three pictures are also very nice, and with good differences one between each others. Its a hard decision, since they are so different! Considering the surreal effects, this one is really the best! But that colours are beautiful, and the sun, and the DOF, lots of qualities as well! Congratulations for it all, Hercules!

Zeca

hi Hercules

Rare to see a landscape shot of 30s during late afternoon/evening. The effect of water flow below the steel gantry bridge is really so smooth and soft to give a cloud mood. Conversion to monotone really makes this timeless. Good work.

I see no birds or motion to break this stillness of the view.

Kalimera Hercules.

En cierto modo creo que has tomado las decisiones más acertadas. Sobre el tema de ver o no el horizonte, la verdad no lo que más me preocupe. Pero sí creo que el tener una referencia visual del otro lado de la tierra ayuda mucho a la foto.

Carlos.

Hi Hercules,
a masterpiece of landscape photography. Stunning. Best thing is the bridge trying to contact the other side at the same level. So the harmony is perfect. With a lower or higher POV you would not get this effect.
Compliments, chris

Geia sou Hrakli,
I find your work perfect. Before reading your note, I liked at once your treatment of the sea and the absence of horizon which provokes an excellent unreal effect.
I enjoyed, on my computer, erasing the land one the right part following the idea of " donluicu ".
But I find that it brings nothing more. I prefer your idea of the bridge which tries to join the land.
Another possibility would have been to create a vagueness on this part of land what would maybe have strengthened the curious aspect of the place.
Very well done!

wonderful work with a perfect pov. I liked the way you put the ruined bridge almost creating a line with the other shore, light and option for B&W is perfect.
