[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is a partial view of the Hora (the "capital") of Serifos, a place that has been inhabited for more than 2.800 years. As I have written in one of my previous notes, usually the "capitals" of the islands of the Aegean (which most of the times are called "Horas") were built relatively far from the sea high up on some hills, to be protected from pirates' attacks.

In the photo you see some of the old part of Serifos' Hora, the upper neighborhood, the Ano (Upper) Hora. Later, when the danger of pirates vanished, a new neighbourhood, the Kato (Lower) Hora was built, on the visible side of the hill ( CHECK WORKSHOP ).

Because of lack of space, the houses are very small. The locals often call them "Kelia" (means "cells"). Whole families used to live in houses that were many times smaller that 25-30 m2 !

There are some theories about why the houses were and are all painted white. One of them says, that it was because of some kind of superstition thing by the people. They thought that this way, their Horas would be cleaner and that they could keep away infectious diseases such as plague and cholera. I think that the main reason is more simple. They just wanted to get rid of the heat, at least some of it.

*** HERE YOU CAN SEE AN "INTERNAL" NIGHT VIEW OF THE HORA, ITS SQUARE WITH THE TOWN HALL AND THE "CATHEDRAL", THE CHURCH OF AGHIOS ANTONIOS (ST. ANTHONY)***

Great shot Hercules, I love the orange lichens on the foreground rock and the contrast with the deep blue sky. Excellent POV too, framing the white town between the mountains.
Regards,
Ryno

Hi Hercules,
The right part of this image with the white houses/blue shutters under the bright sun tells about Greece, but where I see great added value to this image is with the left rocky foreground with its orange/red tones, you found a great pov to mix those too into a very enjoyable and well exposed image.
Have a nice day JY

Hi Hercules,
I like how the rocks dominates the foreground, nice pov projecting a village in between mountains. I like the color of this shot, superb contrast. The thing that i like most is the sky.
Best Regards
Abert

Hi Hercules,
Amazing view with fabled atmosphere I like the spectacular composition and the picturesque colours. Clarity and sharpness are excellent. Fascinating place with romantic environment, Great! Have a nice day
George

Hello Hercules
Your excellent POV emphasises the position of the Hora - enfolded by rocky slopes on both sides. Using the rocks in close-up has also provided the opportunity to make the orange colour of the lichen a major feature of the shot - balancing the strength of the blue in the sky perfectly.
Terrific!
Best wishes...Maggie

Hallo Hercules!
This is an interesting and impressive sight o this remarkable village. The contrast between the rocks and these white houses is stunning. Living there obviously is not easy but somehow the scenery is very homey. This must be a very special place...

TFS.

Kalispera Hercules.

Un abrazo, Jordi

fantastic place... in fact the way you present it is fantastic giritli mou... the blue is incredible as always, also the white balance... my compliments once again...

Hi Hercules. This is a superb composition with the coloured rock in the foreground and the blue sky setting off the blue and white housing section so well. It looks like a very pleasant place to visit. Your comment on the 2,800 years of known history sounds similar to that of Milos. TFS. Murray.

Hola Hercules.
Felicitaciones.
