This shot was taken during sunset, I remember the moment well because I had to almost battle and fight my way into position.
There were so many people wanting to photograph the same subject, but I was the only one with a tripod, and others kept banging into me. I'm sure we've all experienced such things.
I think I got the last laugh because I could hear everybody saying their photo's turned out horribly. Well, thats because you don't have a tripod and you need to use a longer shutter speed! But who am I to tell them that! haha
Nothing really new here, just a sweet view in one of the most beautiful little town's I've ever visited.
It's hard to resist Santorini and Oia.
thanks for looking

Niiiice result, and haha to those who would push you out of the way! I know the feeling, I was at the giants causeway yesterday, and the amount of shutterbugs around was unbelievable, and they all em to regard each other with contempt, or at best disdain. I don't get that! It was even particularly nice there, the sky was grey and flat s I left them to and wen back to my hotel.
This is a beau of a shot though, the sky in particular is layerd like some sort of really expensive sunset cake. The subject of the windmill. Which looks surprisingly like a satellite dish, is perfectly have in such a frame. The tight cropping works a treat and your frame is really nicely chosen. Great shot, easy to see why anybody would love this place so much.

Because I don't have a tripod I would never even attempt to take this kind of photo, because I know (maybe contrary to some others) that it will look horrible. So i don't feel an urge to join the crowd of people all wanting to take the same photo. I would much rather spend the sunset along with a beer or a glass of wine, still enjoying the colours and then be reminded of the lovely moment by watching your photo.

Beautiful photograph with such a peaceful and soothing atmosphere. I agree with Gert that sitting with a glass of wine would be a great idea for this place at this hour (unless of course you have a tripod!). Great photograph, beautiful nature.
Have a nice evening

Hi Craig, Classic view and I imagine the crowd of people around with cameras, tablets and mobiles. But Craig with tripod is always the best :). Funny note.
When it is rain all the time, overcast sky, the tripod will not do wonders. But we had a lot of fun and I enjoy the beginning of my Russian adventure very much, Have a nice weekend

taglio perfetto e atmosfera da sogno, c'è solo da chiedersi perché io non sono seduto su quelle sedie. .....
Sembra quasi inutile aggiungere foto magnifica, fantastica ecc....
Grazie per avermi fatto sognare.

Quelle belle carte postale de Santorin. Comme si on y était pour profiter du coucher de soleil avec un moulin à vent transformé en hôtel de toute beauté.C'est techniquement impeccable.

Lovely picture that brings me some nice memories. More memories than photos. A few slides from the analog time.
Excellent contrast of the shadow and the evening lights.

Beautiful sunset "behind" the old windmill, an ancient wisdom when people knew how to employ nature's forces for simple energy (sounds politically-correct for our era as well).
I like the vertical tight compo., the orange BG tones and the fine white balcony with a spectaular view to sea.
Charming yet impressive.
Have a nice weekend,

A lovely old windmill at magical hour revealing its profiles in gorgeous sunset colours and the entire picture evokes that special wonderful feeling of calm.
You managed the clarity really well, so finely exposed with adequate highlights in shadowed areas. An awesome shot. good skill and technique. Congrats, tfs.

Hi my friend Craig,
this is a wonderful sunset scene, where the fantastic traditional white architecture of the Greek islands, and the splendid windmill as well, under a subtle light, offers us all its beauty.
I like the orange tones on the horizon line, and the perspective towards the sea.
These chairs are a real invitation to enjoy a drink and the sunset.
A beautiful work.

In spite of the crowded conditions you are talking about you created a very atmospheric photo without a hint of other photographers' presence!
I know exactly what to mean about being pushed by people while standing there with a tripod (other photographers walking into my shot to get to "an even better viewpoint" is another type of behaviour I hate) so glad to hear you got the best photos. Well-deserved success for carrying the tripod with you. :-)

Superb this mill at sunset.Very pretty picture typical of Oia. You're not gonna believe this, but I have not seen the mills during my visit to Oia, the fault too quick the visit. I'm dying of rabies, haha ha!I loved this place!
Have a nice week.
Angshu (56748) 2014-09-17 4:44
Funny to read your note...I have seen pictures from this place of sunset, but all are wider views. here you present us with a cropped view in vertical format. The iconic windmill is in semi silhouette and the horizon creates a fine backdrop
adores (43869) 2014-10-06 13:23
Not easy to take a few shots when you have many tourists around, specially with a tripod:)! Beautiful shot, I like the pov and the colours, they remind us of summer that is practically over and you framed the windmill very well.
Oceania (5202) 2014-10-20 11:52
The orange horizon is very attractive. It's Aegean at its the best, one of your very enjoyable pictures.
PS: You have concerns and dilemmas. It’s understandable. One solution is remove you from my side. Sorry, it’s definitely my fault. Think again, the list really doesn't mean much, seriously. I am a strong believer of mutual respect. We could still be friends on TE. It’s all up to you.
NorthernLight (2383) 2014-10-31 9:07
the use of the tripod was worth it. The result is really turned out beautifully.
What I like best about it? Actually everything. Photo subject, composition, colors, light ... everything is of the finest quality.
Very very nice!
Greetings from Sweden to Canada, a country which I also like very much
