Photographer's Note

Pyrgos is the highest village in the island of Santorini, which houses magnificent monuments, hidden at every step in his zigzagging streets. Erected on Mount Exo Gonia, from the top of the town the view is fantastic, with the abundant vineyards and fields.

Pyrgos was built around a Venetian castle. XIII century and is one of five similar buildings in Santorini. Inside the fortress, see houses from the same era, who look to the Kastro, or castle.

Among the many churches in Pyrgos, Theotokaki stand, which holds ancient frescoes and icons of beauty and Marmaritis Agios Nikolaos, built in white marble, which once functioned as funerary temple in honor of the goddess Basel.

But undoubtedly the main attraction of this village is Agia Triada, located at the top of Mount Exo Gonia. The church now houses an exhibition of ancient icons. Due to the earthquake of 1956, was amended several times, giving it its characteristic appearance, a fantastic mix of medieval and modern architecture.

From here you can see the entire town of Pyrgos, descending the slope to the lower ground. The views also include other nearby towns, coasts and beaches with waters of the Aegean on the horizon.

As in all Cycladic villages, winding in its streets, charming spots we can find, like you see in the picture show you today.

Pyrgos es el pueblo más alto de la isla de Santorini, que alberga magníficos monumentos, ocultos a cada paso entre sus zigzagueantes calles. Erigido sobre el monte Exo Gonia, desde la parte alta del pueblo la vista es fantástica, con los abundantes viñedos y los campos.

Pyrgos fue construida entorno a un castillo veneciano. Data del siglo XIII y es una de las cinco edificaciones similares en Santorini. En el interior de la fortaleza, vemos casas de la misma época, que miran hacia el kastro o castillo.

Entre las muchas iglesias de Pyrgos, se destacan Theotokaki, que posee frescos e iconos antiguos de gran belleza y Agios Nikolaos Marmaritis, construida en mármol blanco, que antiguamente funcionaba como templo funerario, en honor de la diosa Basilea.

Pero sin duda la gran protagonista de este pueblo es Agia Triada, ubicada en la cima del monte Exo Gonia. La iglesia en la actualidad alberga una exhibición de iconos antiguos. Debido al terremoto de 1956, fue objeto de varias modificaciones, que le dan su aspecto característico, una fantástica combinación de arquitectura medieval y moderna.

Desde aquí se puede observar todo el pueblo de Pyrgos, descendiendo la ladera hacia el terreno más bajo. Las vistas incluyen además otros pueblos cercanos, las costas y las playas con las aguas del Egeo en el horizonte.

Como en todos los pueblos cicládicos en sus zigzagueantes calles podemos encontrar rincones encantadores como el que vemos en la foto que hoy os muestro.

this is an excellently composed picture which presents to us an interesting brightly sunlit construction which seems a little fantastic to me - because of its shape :)
I love its soft pastel-like pink-orange colour which, in combination with the white and blue creates a very joyful atmosphere!

¡qué luz tan especial captaste en esta toma! Eso da mucha calidad y potencia a los magníficos colores de estas casas y del cielo, con un precioso contraste cromático.
Las formas de la arquitectura son peculiares, me gustan especialmente las chimeneas y cómo se recortan sobre el cielo, así como las plantas y las flores que decoran estas fachadas.
Es un trabajo elegante y atractivo, con un bonito marco.

Hello Luis,

Although I don't ususally like to see wires, in this case, I think it makes a most interesting grid in the sky, adding a new dimension.
A very well composed shot, the buildings creating a natural l/r movement across the frame. The details are sharply exposed and colours natural.

vse barve in kombinacije, ki si jih človek lahko zamisli najdeš na tej fotografiji. naravnost popolna. motije samo žice, ki pa so praktično povsod in so kakor pajčevina razpredene po zraku. škoda.
zelo lepo delo, ki me je spodbudilo, da malo pogledam svoj arhiv slik iz Santorinija. mogoče najdem še kakšno zanimivo. TFS! čestitke!!
