Photographer’s Note
...a bit of the Don Quijote in us, well I certainly do. And the gentleman in the photo.
The famous windmills of Oia charmed me completely. Maybe because it was my first photographic 'meeting' with windmills in general, maybe because they really seem to have a certain elegance. Looking so fragile yet so resistant.
And yes, it's a unique island for sure. I almost feel guilty for rendering my first upload from there B&W, so a workshop photo added :)

Hej Majo, koje veselje vidjeti opet tvoj rad. What a resumption after a long, ruminating break with this Surrealistic composition. You have given the scene another interpretation , not one that generates the usual postcard "wow" response, but one that beguiles us, makes us look deep into this complex composition and lets us dream of other realities. The B&W augments the mystery. There is luminosity throughout. Uzivam gledati tvoj san.Pozdrav. Klaudio.

Draga Majo,
Moj radijus ostaje 120 km oko Beograda i plivam uz Dunav i niz Dunav. I lepo mi. Radujem se što sam te ponovo video. Svu sreću ti želim,
Branko

Zdravo Marija,
this photo reminds me of Miró. Vast white surfaces and tiny little details, yes fragile as you said it yourself best. It works perfectly in BW version, i prefer it like that since it makes me possible to create my own colourful version and at the same time stresses the importance on these gentle and sophisticated details that place this photo to exact location. A+
Warm regards,
Jeri

Cao Majo,
Svi smo navikli na neku plavo-belu varijantu grckih ostrva, ali ova crno-bela me je bas privukla, delovala mi je bajkovito, a kad sam kliknula na workshop jos bajkovitije :) Prelepo.
Pozdrav,

original to post this in BW, usually we see here a great blue sky, maybe the light was not that good?
the conversion is fine.

Hello Marija,
Good to see you back and your first new entry is a beautiful one. I never saw an image from Oia in b&w from this pov. Refreshing, somenting new, a great one because the composition is also build up in and excfellent way with lots of perspective depth and the vertical framing fits perfect to all this....a real beauty,.

Hi Marija
Works very well in B&W. I also like the colour version posted in the workshop but the B&W works better for me due to the lack of distraction caused by colours.

Zdravo Marija!
this is one of the best shot of Santorini that I've ever seen. I personaly don't like Black & White version, but this one is so graphical and so authentical... it seems like a scene of old film, like "Zorba, the Greek". I like it very much.
Regards, Silvia
P.S. The coloured version is very good too.

Hi Marija,
Nice to see that you have posted again. A wonderful black and white so Escheresque! with all those stairs on various levels and the tiny figures scattered all around too. Simply beautiful looks like an image from another time. I love it!

Good evening Marija
Nice to see you back in a long time with this very beautiful composition from Oia. We have seen many from this place but this one is a really new perspective at it. The b/w, rare for a colorful place like that, greatly fits the title and it renders a new dimension in the way we see it.
My compliments

As from the old photograph of terra incognita - beautiful island so clean in its colours, so complicated in the labirynth of narrow streets.. might be the illustration to Cervantes' masterpieces or beautoful Kawafis' poetry.. anyway - Bravo!

hello Marija,
good to see you posting again :)
I certainly prefer the B&W version, the feeling that all this is an artificial set for some movie is lost in the colour version. the shot seems almost Escher-esque with surreal perspective and scale. superb work, goes to my favourites.

Kristine

maya,
pretty fairy tale view in a dreamy black&white conversion ... this is no flat photo!
dulcineea's alter egos crystal clear laughs and running steps are just around the corner,
hurrying into the picture any minute now ;o) ... windmills come to life ;o) ... can you hear them?
simply charming - thanks!

Beautiful shot - such an interesting viewpoint and the people occupying it fill it with such a sense of scale - a human scale environment - organic - produced out of need and conforming to the environment - love it!

Hello Marija again,
What could I say here! You prefer B/W instead of colour. Its something obvious in your gallery. Only your B/W POVs are well given to the viewers eye and works perfectly. This result here is very interesting. You took advantage the already white from the houses killing the rest of the colors and keeping the pure description of the place.
I mean who wouldn't notice that its Oia here? The white and the structure are unique, and can be recognized, you just put your touch here and make it a Marija trend mark ;)
Congrats for this fine and different picture, since, I've seen several pictures from Oia, but none of them in B/W

Hi Maya,
Perfect framing to show the intricate forms and structures, accentuated by the light and shadow interplay. Could be an Escher creation too, however no obvious impossible paths. The presence of people at different levels makes it almost seem like a miniature display. I remember this place well, although it was almost 15 years ago.
nice to see you back,
Cristian

My compliments.! Much seen place but how you make it look like is different. It makes me think of a miniature...Superb sense of depth, with the intricate up and downs, and the people, all at the right places to makes this so lively. I love your choice of b/w which enhances the special feeling...and I do find the color one also beautiful, but this is more.

Hola Marija.
Wonderful composition, very good B&W shot of the Beautiful Oia, I'm not a fan of B&W shots but this is really an exception, it looks better than your WS in color. Very well captured from an excellent POV, very good light, sharpness and frame.
Best regards and hope you will have a nice weekend.

Hello Marija,
I have the honor of seeing your amazing gallery, especially this shot has the strong power to fascinate me. It's very impressive that the big boys seem walking happily around Oia like a fantasy land.
Have a nice weekend, Hisashi

The b&w is great Marija, but thanks for the color version. You really taught me about the world with all those colors. Greece is really a box full of surprises when it comes to color. It's amazing. Back to your b&w... I love your crop here. That lower section wasn't really adding nothing. The game of shadows is lovely, really enhancing the 3D of the scene. That cloud is priceless. It's a great photo.
Wish you the best for this loving season. May God be gentle with you all the times. I also wish you the best light for a brand new 2009! Stay safe, l.

Just fantastic, Marija, I have seen lots of photographs with this famous view, but yours is so different from all of them. By sacrificing colors and by incorporating several planes you have achieved unprecedented graphism, the shot really looks like one of Escher's graphs!
Cheers

Hey Marija,
Fantastic and unreal scene with this powerful B&W post processing...
Very good blacks, very good white and grey where is necessary.
The version in the workshop and quality of light in it allow us to understand more easier the result you obtain for this work in B&W.
Best regards,
Raphael
