Sun and Shade, a photo from Kyklades, South Aegean

Photographer's Note

Oia is a typical and characteristic Cycladic village houses, where one breathes a magical and tranquil atmosphere. In the upper part of the town considerably damaged by an earthquake in 1956, are the remains of a Venetian fortress, with a good view over the town and the boiler. The restoration work and tourism category have become one of the most charming of the Cyclades.

The view of the population, which seems to ride along the top of the cliff, always dominating perspective on the boiler, while many of its buildings, also appear to be cascading through the rugged slopes, is a unique and wonderful with the immaculate white of their homes, although some in beautiful pastel colors, which break the monotony of monochrome and always sprinkled around plants and flowers.

The churches and bell towers popping up everywhere with their cupolas or belfries between the volumes of their homes in the belfry that image is outlined with the bottom of the sea, in a difficult backlight, but the picture I thought it was worth a try.

Oía es un típico y característico pueblo de casas cicládicas, donde se respira un mágico y tranquilo ambiente. En la parte alta de la localidad notablemente dañada por un terremoto en 1956, se hallan los restos de una fortaleza veneciana, con un buen mirador sobre el pueblo y la caldera. Las obras de restauración y un turismo de categoría la han transformado en una de las poblaciones más encantadoras de las Cícladas.

La vista de la población, que parece cabalgar a lo largo de lo más alto del acantilado, dominando siempre la perspectiva sobre la caldera, mientras muchos de sus edificios, parecen también ir cayendo en cascada por las agrestes pendientes, es una vista única y maravillosa, con el blanco inmaculado de sus casas, aunque hay algunas en preciosos tonos pastel, que rompen la monotonía monocromática y siempre todo salpicado por las plantas y flores.

Las iglesias y campanarios surgen por todas partes con sus cúpulas ó espadañas entre los volúmenes de sus casas, en esa imagen la espadaña se perfila con el fondo de las aguas del mar, en un difícil contraluz, pero por la imagen me pareció que valía la pena intentarlo.

Hola Luis, no need for any note - one sees in miniature that it must be Santorini. Fantastic white bellfry against deep blue sea. Interesting shadows. it would be fun to hear these bells ringing. beautiful picture, so typical for Greece. I think I have seen the same bells here.

Hola amigo Luís, como te fué la comida de las uvas, yo paso un poco de masticarlas y las tomo en zumo, a ser posible de reserva o similar, también acepto espumosos de calidad y con pedigrí, bueno ahora a lo serio. Me gusta esta buena toma del singular companario a contraluz, con el fondo del mar que realza los volúmenes blancos y la interesante y espectacular sombra arrojada sobre el techo de la edificación. Un bonito e interesante estudio de volúmenes y sombras. Muy buen e interesante trabajo perfectamente realizado, mis felicitaciones. Gracias por compartir tus interesantes trabajos.

Your pov is excellent, it shows us clearly the shapes and the details of the bells and their supports but it also uses the shadows as a perfect balance in the composition. A great use of the light, fine composition and sharp exposure.

Hola Luis,
L'eau et l'architecture forment ensemble un magnifique paysage dans lequel le contraste entre le bleu profond de la mer et le blanc du clocher est tout simplement superbe. La position du soleil, au moment de la prise, a permis au clocher de rester dans l'ombre et d'éviter ainsi que les hautes lumières soient brûlées.
Une belle réalisation d'une vue classique dont on ne se lasse pas.

me he saltado las dos fotos de las luces de Navidad, y me centro en esta maravilla. Qué bonito contraste entre blanco y azul, esos colores genuinamente meditarráneos, y qué magnífico juego de luz y sombras sobre esta espadaña que se destaca sobre el mar.
La combinación de la blanca arquitectura de las islas y el profundo azul del mar crea una imagen brillante y bien contrastada, con una excelente luminosidad.
