Photographer's Note

We did a walk from Halki in central Naxos back towards the coast to the town of Melanes. The walk started past ancient (up to 1000year old) olive trees and then moved into pasture areas and up through a pass. The walking guide book was hopelessly wrong but you could see where you were going (the gap in the hills etc so we didn't get lost.
Near the pass, after scrambling over rock walls we came across the ruins of old fortification on a hilltop with a couple of old chapels below - one is in nestled into the middle of the hill and the other maintained one is in the gap. To be continued....
