Two generations, a photo from Kyklades, South Aegean

Photographer's Note

A scene in a traditional cafe into Naxos' castle. A child who is bored with the environment and the old lady, owner of the small cafe, reminiscing the days passed....

I dedicate that photo to my friend Luciano Gollini (lousat), it is a photo that has been published on NOX magazine(Spanish edition) in an article for Mediterranean countries. (see it in workshop)

i like this old fashioned b&w shot, the Willy Ronis or Cartier-Bresson way
All the pictures on the wall, the bored attitude of the young boy and the look of top class lady of the grandmama

hi vasilis,
love the black and white format. also love the expression of both subjects. yes, the elderly lady appears to be content as she reflects on her life, whereas the young child looks bored that his life has not fully taken off yet.

εκπληκτική ασπρόμαυρη φωτογραφία που αποτυπώνει και μελετά τα συναισθήματα της γιαγιάς και της εγγονής αλλά και προκαλεί και αναμοχλεύει σκέψεις και συναισθήματα στον θεατή. Hello Vasilis - Second time lucky, the first critique I wrote got lost in cyberspace! Congratulations on a fine shot and the publication of it. The B&W treatment is ideal for the type of image and I love the details that surround the elderly woman and the child. The pin-boards filled with memorabilia forma type of collage which tell the story of the lady's life. They work so well with the dreamy far-away look in her eyes. The child looks less than thrilled and would probably be happier sat in front of a computer or the TV (horrors!). A shot which reminds us of a lifestyle which will be lost and replaced by the modern 'ere too soon. Warm regards and TFS. Rosemary

A great photo with excellent greyscale and a very good light. The old grandmother has surrounded herself with memories of a long life. No wonder the boy looks bored. All he wants is an iPad!

Hello Vasilis,
first I must say congratulations on aving this photograph published, it deserves to be. The B & W white works perffectly for this image that looks to the past through the history and wall photo colection of the grandmother, yet forwards through the eyes of the young girl. The granddaughter is bored and looking to the future to entertain her.But these two have a connection between them even if they seem seperate.

there's something really attractive and attention grabbing about this photo.
having the 2 contrasting subjects, especially the young girl works well visually and emotionally for the viewer.
excellent idea too, to make it monochrome.
love all the subjects on the wall aswell.
