Between September 18-30 I was serving as a special interest lecturer on board the Crystal Serenity, plying the waters of the Eastern Mediterranean. Having sailed out of Istanbul on Wednesday, September 19, the magnificent cruise ship sailed through the Dardanelles, and docked at the Island of Mykonos on September 21.
Mykonos is a veritable stage set, featuring narrow streets, buildings painted in deep blues and pristine whites (the colors that inspired the Greek flag). And of course, there is the town's mascot, Petros the Pelican. (I must admit, in several visits to Mykonos in the past three decades, I've witnessed Petros's oscillation in age — young in some years, old in others — attesting to the existence of several generations of Petroses.)
As we traipsed along the narrow streets, we came upon a door to to the courtyard of an elementary school. Alas, it takes no more than a smile, to get children to respond to a camera. A good trick I've discovered over the years is to take several images in quick succession, and select the best. In this photo, the children jockeyed for position, put their heads together, and managed simultaneously to have their left eyes in the openings between the slats.
We also took a bus ride to the topless (optional) beach, "Paradise". We dared not to go to another beach, "Ultimate Paradise," where guests have to doff all clothing.

charmy the snapshot with the three boys to 'play' in front of your lens hiding behind the wooden fence.I like the brilliant light of the day,as enhance the vivid colours of the scene with the blue to dominates the image.

a wonderful portrait of the three adorable friends behind the freshly painted bars of the primary school. I like very much the gentle lighting and the way you have managed the sheen on the blue railing. Sharpness is excellent adding to the vividness and contact between viewer and subjects. I love how we can see one eye of each boy but their expressions and bond are so obvious and clear. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely weekend,

Saw this a while ago in FB! Very nice capture on these faces, i love how each child portrays different expression and how their eyes were concealed by these blue bars. As to the compo, i would have it cropped were the faces would be in the center, maybe get rid an inch or so at the bottom of the image, though this is a matter of my own visual preference. Regardless, love this image! TFS!

A real charmer this one. Isn't the laugh of childern jus so catching?
Well spotted and nicely executed. The blue fence is just such a nice eye catcher that holds the composition together.
have a great week

You departed Istanbul on September 19 and I arrived there on the 20th; on the 19th I was in Eceabat. It is a shame that we were in the same region unbeknown to us and did not cross paths. This is a fun photo of Mykonos showing some of the happy locals. The rich blue colour of the painted wood is reminiscent of the beautiful Greek national flag. I like the spectrum of facial expressions here from curious interest in the photographer to laughter. A fine composition, Bulent!

Dear Bülent Bey,
Both Aegean sides look so much alike. I first thought it was a picture taken in a village across the Aegean.
Santorini is a wonderful place, and it was a real change to see a picture that falls out of the ordinary, one that depicts the everyday life, without the classical church compositions. It is nice to see all children' eyes thru the slats.

Interesting framing with these 3 children. Lovely happy faces after blue fence. Well seen!
All the best,

Merhaba dearest Bulent
I hope you have enjoyed your travels, I certainly regret missing the opportunity of meeting you in Venice (my dad has not been well) but hope to meet you personally one day soon.
And these little cuties speak for themselves. You have captured so skillfully all their innocence, wonder, beauty and mischief. Your delicious photo makes me feel like kissing every one of them and pinching their little cheeks. Oooh this has made me smile, thanks so much for sharing it with us.
Un caro saluto

The blue grids of the gate are an ideal setting for this triple portrait. It makes a colourful foreground and it forces the kids to peep with only one eye through the openings, which gives the picture an amusing and spontaneous atmosphere. The titel is certainly well chosen.

Bonjour, cher ami Bulent,
L'enfance, chaque adulte a passé cet âge. Il a laissé des traces, stigmates et autres souvenirs. Entre nostalgie et parfum d'antan, éloge d'un temps passé pour nous, mais présent pour les nouvelles générations. Un âge qui devrait être béni pour tous.

This inventive group portrait of schoolboys is highly interesting, attractive and of a very high quality. In addition, the shot is an excellent illustration of the comprehensive story about your visit of Mykonos given in the note. A perfectly good job!

Just such a pleasant image. And talking about jockeying for position made me remember a shot I took the other day. Will upload it next. Well seen and well presented. Innocence is always beautiful. Best wishes.

Yes indeed children being children... such a gorgeous image of them & three different looks... the first boy is happy to have his picture taken - then we have the coy cheeky look - followed through to the mischievous lad.
Great colour gate & excellent photo.
I would like to wish you & your family '' A VERY HAPPY CHRISTMAS '' with much love & good health in the New Year.
