Photographer's Note
Can anyone explain how on Earth, could a rock like this have been created? With the geological history of Milos everything seems possible. The greatest artist of all times, Nature, had a creativity and imagination uplift, when creating this unique island.
If you want to see such "psychedelic" rock and pebbles you should go the Kastanas beach on the east coast of Milos. Get a good map of the island and don't be afraid of the dirtroads! Don't pick a pebble as a souvenir! A local legend says, that everytime a visitor took a pebble as a souvenir, the pebble was losing its colours as soon as it left Milos. Can you believe it?

Hello Dear Hercules,
What a pleasure to have just logged onto Trekearth when this extraordinary photograph rolled in. It is puzzling how this formation has been created. The colors and textures in the image are remarkable. But, what is the actual texture of the rock with the concentric circles. Is it glass? If so, the type of heat generated by a meteor impact can produce this effect. There is a prehistoric site in the dessert west of South West Egypt where multicolored glass was found, and used by the Pharaohs as jewelry. Only recently was the source of that material traced to a meteor impact tens of thousands of years ago.
Warm regards,
Bulent

I've likened a fish eye...Approximately,i think,it's not rock which is prehistoric fish fossil in my opinion.Anyway.I've loved a lot of attractive colors of the rock. That's got marbled colors...
Take care of yourself!

Seeing the thumbnail, I thought it was an octopus commited suicide!
What an intresting rock you found over there! And the "splash" is a bonus, a carefully arranged moment.
Cheers,

Hello Hercules,
Amazing work with superlative image quality as always, the luminous white splash have been perfectly rendered with a nice choice of the shutter speed. It's also very interesting that this subject seems a huge creature washed ashore.
Thanks for showing superb image always.

Bonjour Hercules
This is a very special place! I wish I could go to Kastanas beach to look at this incredible and colorful spectacle! The big rock reminds me a bit of an agate. You are right to mention not to pick up the pebbles ;)

Incredible warm cold colour contrasts, between the red streaked fg rock, & the blue green water. A fantastic decisive moment shot, capturing the breaking wave. Tfs!

Hello Hercules! This is of immense beauty, the colors of the stone, these rusty tones, and the splash of sea in the background with amazing blues in the water. Yes I have been to Milos but in these days, I don't know, I saw the beauty, but maybe not in the stone ... if I may say so. This goes to my favorites, it has to. Love it. I am sure it has a lot of explanations when you ask a geologist and when I look at it I might agree that you have to leave the little stones where they are but I sometimes take them home, actually from each trip, just one but now I might reconsider. Best regards, happy weekend, Barbara.

Hi Hercules,
you continue to surprise us with unearthy views. This is just beautiful.
The colors and the rock texture are fantastic.
You have added a lot to it by using slightly longer exposition time. The movement of water makes it even more attractive.

Hi Hercules,
The thumbnail really stood out so I had to look at this photo. It is a brilliant capture of colour and movement, taken at the right time and from the right point of view.
The colours and patterns in the rocks are probably caused by groundwater moving through the rocks and depositing layers of iron hydroxides, called liesegang bands, as well as the photographer increasing the saturation of the photo to enhance the colours.

Amazing, it looks like a huge colourful Sail Fish washed ashore and buried in the sand.
It truly is a wonder, sometimes Nature does the most strangest thing and it could take us ages to know what caused such a phenomenon.
Interesting Note about the place and the legacy, thanks for sharing this beauty...
Cheers, Blue
