Two of the majestic religious buildings of the little village of Meghalochori on the island of Santorini, Greece. Meghalochori (which in translation means “Big Village”) in truth has only about 350 inhabitants. It is located between Pyrgos, Emporio, and Akrotiri at a distance of less than 10 km from the main town of Thira. It has hundreds of traditional small white painted houses built one upon the other with winding calderimia (stone-cobbled narrow pathways). It is characterised by its beautiful churches that are dotted around the streets, rise above you and dominate the skyline, despite the telephone wires and bell-ropes.

Hi Brian, the electric wires are always a problem in the old greek towns,i been many times in Greece and i seen always this situation..ehehe....but the view is really beautiful, and when the sun kiss the white facade, the sky is very very blue, magnificent surrounding perspective and the usual top quality of details and colors! Hello Brian ,
I suppose that it is diificult to capture this kind of place , beacuse there are so many elements . You've chosen here an excellent angle of view , and the distortion works very well . I like a lot the contrast with the blue sky .

Kia ora Brian (greetings from New Zealand0,
A great composition taken in great light, I presume late afternoon. The telephone lines add interest to this picture. Cheers, Neil

hi Brian, nicely shown perspective here using a low POV. Great colour contrast between white and blue. Excellent depth and good sharpness. A superb shot. Tfs.

Wow this stands out of the crowd. The colours are absolutely luminous and I love the bokeh effect of the wide angle, creating such an artistic composition. The light is beautifully regulated and everything is razor sharp. A superb photo, congrats.

A life's work to clone out all these overhead wires:-) In any event, they don't spoil the overall enjoyment of the composition. I like the unusual and slightly quirky point of view that seems to pull everything together to create a harmonious whole. Lovely warm light and colours. Thanks for sharing, and have a pleasant Sunday.

Hello Brian , the deep blue sky is the perfect BG for all the most interesting of the churches, somehow the jumble of ropes give the image an extra interest.
Very nicely done.
All the best Les.

Nicou (105809) 2013-08-18 6:59

A beautiful pic from greece, but not in your usual style
yet color accentuation and luminosity well in your quality line
Have a nice WE, best regards

I hate cables, wires and advertisings, they should be the main subject of many photos. You have captured this beautiful architecture and additional unwanted elements, beautiful church, beutiful light, beautiful colors and ugly wires, technically very good photo

Very interesting and attractive picture!
Even that mess of wires and ropes turned out to be nice in this image!
Light, colors, chosen pov, level of sharpness and composition are all excellent!
TFS - congrats,
Have a great week,

Très bon cadrage permettant d'intégrer dans l'image de nombreux détails intéressants comme ces cordes permettant de sonner les cloches. Très belle lumière et jolies couleurs.

Sometime it seems that Greece is made out of churches only. A village with a mere 350 inhabitants and then two such impressive churches.
Nothing agains the bell ropes but isn't it annoying from time to time when you come upon the perfect subject just to be spoilt by all those wires hanging around? At least me it annoyes a lot from time to time.
Great upward POV and the deep saturated sky is gorgeous.
have a good week
SnapRJW (23656) 2013-08-19 6:44
Hello Brian - The bell ropes make an attractive feature here and, by association, the telegraph wires do not detract. The typical religious architecture is strongly presented by your composition and upward view and the colours although bot white and blue are beautifully contrasted and harmonious. The one bright yellow splash makes the shot I think. Warm regards rosemary

Hi Brian, Again Santorini but quite different area and photo. creative composition, fantastic colurs as always. Wonderful bell tower. fa ntastic perspective and fabulous blue sky.
mkamionka (27073) 2013-08-22 4:20
great composition with nice combination of several interesting elements in one frame. I like the bell tower in the foreground, we can almost touch the decorative elements there. The church further in the distance is so pretty and everything white or yellow set against the dark blue sky.
Very impressive work!
