Photographer's Note

Another in my Greek Island sunsets collection.

Ionians came and settled the island in 1050 B.C. The islands name name claims that it derives from the name of the Ionians.
But according to another version, the name derives from the Phoenician word "Iion", meaning "a heap of stones".
In still another version, Ios took its name from the violets (Greek "ion") that fill its countryside each spring.

The island has also been linked to the death of the poet Homer, whos tomb can apparently be found near Plakoto.
