Photographer's Note

Shot from the ferry just leaving the main port of Ios island.
For the next three weeks i'll be less active in the site because of i'll travel to USA/Seattle to visit my son's family and the more important their new member, my first grandson.

Ios

Ios (Greek: Ίος, locally Νιός - Nios) is a Greek island in the Cyclades group in the Aegean Sea. Ios is a hilly island with cliffs down to the sea on most sides, situated halfway between Naxos and Santorini. It is about 18 km (11 mi) long and 10 km (6 mi) wide, with an area of about 109 km² (42 mi²). Population was 1,838 in 2001 (down from 3,500 in the 19th century). Ios is part of the Santorini peripheral unit.Ios was the setting for the movie Ginger and Cinnamon (Dillo con parole mie). Also, scenes from the film Big Blue (Le Grand Bleu) were shot in Manganari.

City of Chora

The Port of Ios is at the head of the Ormos harbor in the northwest. From there the bus or a 15-minute walk up the steep donkey path takes you to the village, known as Chora. Chora is a white and very picturesque cycladic village, full of stairs and narrow paths, that makes it inaccessible for cars of any kind. Today, the main path through this village is completely taken over by tourism in terms of restaurants, boutiques, bars and discothèques. Apart from the port and the village of Chora, Ios has only a few small settlements, just a group of spread out houses in the background of major beaches (Theodoti, Kalamos, Maganari). Since the 1990s, the island mayor Pousseos has worked on Ios' development towards attracting different types of tourists. With the help of European Community funds some roads have been built, all of them paved, and a scenic amphitheater has been created by the German architect Peter Haupt (who died in 2003) at the top of the village hill. Unfortunately, cultural events rarely take place up there.

ωραία σκηνή με το ιστιοφόρο να αναχωρεί από την ηρεμία του λιμανιού προς το ανοικτό πέλαγος.Η εκκλησία στην άκρη του λιμανιού δεσπόζει της άκρης του και κατευοδώνει ομίζω τους ναυτικούς.

Hi Danos,
A beautifully composed picture with many fine parts. The straight slope provide a diagonal and the white church is the main part of the view, but the boat approaching the pier provide life and action. The deep blue colour of the water is very attractive. A paradisical view!

your POV from the ferry offers us a nautical image very attractive and very dynamic, with the sailboat leaving the port, and a few fantastic colors in the sea.

Very, very beautiful Danos!
The church alone would be a nice and deserving subject but the sailing boat in foreground and the sight of the bay make a most appealing composition with rich vivid colours and an excellent clarity. I remember well this place and the church because our ferry stopped here on the way to Naxos. Your photo gives back all its splendour.

We did not have the summer this year in Ireland and I had just short vacations with a bad weather as well so I like to stay longer in your gallery dreaming about summer...
This one is again such a relaxing view. The church has such an original style and the composition with the boat exiting to the open sea is very pretty.

it looks like the sun was strong but you've handled well with 1/3000s. A nice view, with a good timing on the sail boat leading the eye on the lovely chapel and the horizon line. Fine colour contrasts as well!

The white churtch is indeed a fine focal point! The contrast between the deep blue water & the warm colour of the land is appealing. The triangle shape of the landmass seems to segregate the two blues - of the sky 7 the water well. Good work!

P/D. My trip to Greece in general has been very nice and bring good memories, very good time in Athens and the Peloponnese.
In the islands a little disappointed because I have not had these waters so blue, nor the heavens as clean, as most days we had a lot of fog, especially Santorini. Also a cold north wind.
The photos will have to wait a little, because I have made many and should be selected and then document on which to rise.

Μπορεί να βρέχει στο Σαν Ντιεγκο σήμερα αλλά εμένα δεν με νοιάζει γιατί είμαι ήδη στήν Ίο στίς Κυκλάδες!Μοναδικό αυτό το αιγαιοπελαγίτικο μπλέ τής θάλασσας πού το άφησες ήσυχο και φυσικό ετσι είναι ακόμα πιό όμορφο σε αντίθεση με το κάτασπρο εκκλησάκι πού δεσπόζει πανηγυρικά στον βράχο. Η παρουσία του ιστιοπλοικού δίνει μια ζωντανή νότα στο κατα τα άλλα ήρεμο μα απίστευτα μαγευτικό τοπίο!
