The Church At Red Rocks, a photo from Kyklades, South Aegean

Photographer's Note

Aghios Nikolaos is a pristine little white church at the southern end of the volcanic island of Santorini, Greece. You have to walk past this beautiful church set amongst the red rocks to get to Red Beach (Kokkini Paralia) which lies just around the headland on which this church stands. In this image you can see someone has used red paint to try and cover some graffiti. Just to the left of this attempt to disguise what was a cross painted on the rock, can you make out a face, staring out from the rock?

The red painted graffiti is quite eerie and contributes much to the atmosphere of the shot. You have captured this delightful little church very well under a good light. The Greek flag flying in the wind is another plus.

The textures are great too, and the whites tones are especially very well rendered (and it is not always easy !)

l'architettura greca fa sempre il suo effetto con il suo colore candido quale che sia lo sfondo. Di solito è il mare, ma in questo caso è la roccia bruna che fa da cornice, senza però che la composizione ne soffra.
Belli i colori e la nitidezza.

The contrast is simply brilliant between the little white church and the dark red stones in the background. The Greek flag is well placed on the left, thanks for the note too, otherwise the face would have been difficult to see !

Hi Brian,

I am quite impressed with your light management skills, especially in these types of images with stark white as a prominent color. The backdrop of colors to this image is amazingly subtle, yet has such an impact in contrast to the rest of the scene. This is a creative look at the church and its surroundings, very well displayed. Great shot!

Le contraste de luminosité n'était pas facile à maitriser mais tu as parfaitement réussi. Jolie mise en image de cette église toute blanche se détachant sur cet arrière plan rocheux très sombre.
