Photographer's Note

Climbing on the hill sloping down to the port willing to step in order to provide to every inhabitant of the views of the Aegean island the houses of Symi are an example of neoclassical architecture of the Dodecanese and the bright colors make it even better the already glorious landscape of the island.
Symi is a Greek island almost 1 hour from the island of Rhodes. It is mountainous and includes the harbor town of Symi and its adjacent upper town Ano Symi, as well as several smaller localities, beaches, and areas of significance in history and mythology.
The shipbuilding and sponge industries were substantial on the island and, while at their peak near the end of the 19th century, the population reached 22,500. Symi's main industry is now tourism and the population has declined to 2,500.

Arrampicate sui fianchi della collina digradante sul porto, disposte a gradino in modo da fornire ad ogni abitante la vista sul mar Egeo, le case dell’isola di Symi sono un esempio dell’architettura neoclassica del Dodecaneso e con i colori vivaci rendono ancora più bello il già ridente paesaggio dell’isola.
Symi è un’isola greca distante all’incirca un’ ora di mare da Rodi. E’ montuosa e comprende la città portuale di Symi e la sua adiacente città alta, ricca di ricordi nella storia e nella mitologia.

L’industria cantieristica e della pesca delle spugne hanno rappresentato un apice nelle attività dell’isola nel 19° secolo, quando raggiungeva circa 22.500 abitanti.
Attualmente l’attività principale è legata al turismo e la popolazione è calata a 2500 abitanti.

This is a fine vertical format shot. The vertical format is great allowing us to see the height of the scene. The houses lead the eye through the shot nicely. The lighting and colors are great and the photo has excellent sharpness.

Hello Antonio,
A lovely composition of these colourful houses rising up the hillside layer upon layer. The image benefits from a pleasant ambient light and lovely natural looking colours. Sharpness is very good indeed. The fishing boat, which is nicely placed in the frame is a definite plus.

che bella foto di Simi! rivedo con piacere un posto che ho trovato bellissimo con le case che ricordano un poco le case veneziane. bella immagine luminosa e dai bellissimi vivaci colori. La scelta del taglio vericale ti ha permesso di enfatizzare la vertricalità del luogo senza trascurare l'inclusione del mare.

Queste case di Symi sono molto fotogeniche e le hai inquadrate bene e catturate con una bella luce. Il senso di verticalità è grande e pari all'effetto grafico. Il peschereccio ci sta come il cacio sui maccheroni.

Funny how the colors seem to almost be the same, but still are varied enough to create a lovely picturesque setting.
Great too, that you included the boat inside the frame.
the hightlight for me are the bright blue window shades.
