Photographer's Note

A pic taken in the church of Ipseni Monastery,close to Lardos and builth in 19th century.
This small white stained nunnery was in an ideal setting of olive and pine groves until a forest fire swept through the area in 2009.

Fotografia scattata all'interno della chiesa del Monastero di Ipseni,situato vicino a Lardos e costruito nel 19mo secolo.
Situato in una bellissima posizione tra ulivi e pini che stanno ricrescendo dopo il terribile incendio nel 2009.

Ciao caro Luciano,

An interetsing note - I do hope that the monastery did not suffer any damage during the fire of 2009 for this looks to be a wonderful place.

You have caught the atmosphere of the place perfectly and in this photograph using flash, you have used the flash very subtly and expertly so there is no evidence at all of the horrid harsh bright areas and shadows which we so often associate with flash photography.

The composition is excellent, the open book balanced beautifully buy the window on the left but with enough detail in the dark areas that we can absorb the atmosphere of this holy place - as in the picture on the wall on the far left.

Perfect light management, perfect exposure, lovely colours and exquisite sharpness.

I must say you had a great idea with this composition Luciano.I assume The Holy Book in the first plan,so clear and sharp visible and the darken interior of the Monastery as a background make together superb combination to achieve so unique result.The contrast is shown here perfectly.Very atmospheric composition!

The pic. is so clear I can read the whole text. An excelent indoor's image, with good DOF as the window on far side is in perfect sharpness, inspit the almost total darkness.

Le chiese ortodosse sono uno spettacolo. Mi piace molto questo gestione di luce ed il modo in cui hai composto la scena. Immagino che lo flash (almeno (fill) era necessario da illuminare le due parte della foto. Hai fatto bene ritienando i dettagli dalle due.

The light on the open book balances so well with the light coming through the window. The dark interior adds a mood of quiteness. A hard photo to take in these conditions and you managed admirably.

difícil luz y difícil conseguir una buena exposición en esta toma interior.
Pero lo has hecho magistralmente, usando el flash de relleno para el libro en el primer plano, y dejando un fondo bien equilibrado entre la luz que entra por la ventana y la oscuridad de la sala.
El resultado es magnífico, la composición es fuerte y muy atractiva.

Great idea and I love the composition with the book so prominent in the photo however you would need to do multiple exposures and hdr to get some detail inside the church.
