A view of the houses in the town of Pothia which is the capital and the port of the Greek island of Kalymnos. Pothia town itself is a colourful and lively, if noisy, place built in an amphitheatre around the port; a densely populated area built in the early 1850’s the town is made up of a variety of traditional houses with highly neoclassical features.

There is much to see in this well presented composition. So many different styles of architecture and different shapes and sizes. I like the point of view and the contrasting framing offered by the boats drawn up along the quayside. The lighting is very atmospheric and the colours pleasant and natural.

Nice view of the sea side crowded by these beautiful houses. The panoramic format suits the scene well. From whatever we can see of the sea, its colour looks beautiful. Good shot with excellent clarity and light and splendid colours. Thanks for sharing.

You have achieved remarkable clarity on this shot. everything is pin-sharp.
Your photograph creates a very natural visual movement from the boats in the f/g, up the hillside, like climbing steps, until we reach the uppermost houses.
You have captured the cheery nature of the Greeks, with their eye for colour and alfresco lifestyle.
Have a great day,

Ciao e buona giornata

Good choice for this panoramic format, excellent result with all these coloured houses, perfect sharpness, tfs.

I think I remember you posting from this location before - the scene looks familiar.
The panorama has been very well framed and all the details of the composition have been properly organized into well working wholeness. The small strip of sea frames it lovely at the bottom and the boats on the water diversify a little bit the image. The "sea" of the houses is colorful and full of interesting details to explore.
Very nice light of the afternoon sun and properly given sharpness.
Thanks for sharing and enjoy your day

just a glimpse of the sea is enough to set the scene for this very attractive shot with the pretty multi coloured houses along the hillside adding their own charm.
Pin sharp throughout and perfectly exposed it`s a super shot.
All the best Les.

very attractively composed labirynth of stylish houses The fact that you have cut away the sky resulted in an interesting effect. I like the well saturated colors, there is so much orange and blue in there.
Very well spotted, excellent work,
macjake (68476) 2014-02-05 12:22
awesome awesome awesome.
I like the tight crop, leaving out the sky I think was a smart idea. clear, sharp, excellent light, excellent details, and all with a really cool subject.
just look at all the blue window shutters :)
see you around

This is a wonderful picturesque town with all the houses built behind each other on the steep slope.
Different colours were used to paint the facades of these houses. Mostly soft tones.
Many houses have a remarkable cube shape. A single house reminds me of pictures of Symi. But this town is different.
Kalymnos is an island not often shown here.
Thanks for this splendid contribution.
Best regards, Paul

Interesting architecture, in the thumbnail's I thought it was India not Greece.
Great Pov, over to this sea side town of Pothia. It looks a busy harbour for it's size.
Were you out in a boat? Super colours well managed.
Fed up with this wind and rain, roll on to spring hey.

What I like abut this shot is the crop Brian, the frame is busting with detail and we can clearly see how the houses are packed into the steep seaside slope. The narrow strip of sea and boats add the context without overshadowing the main subject. Nicely done. Warm regards Rosemary
