August evening, a photo from Dodekanisos, South Aegean

Photographer's Note

This is the south west side of the Castle with mostly big houses that belonged to some the old families of the island. They have distinctive features of traditional patmian architecture such as an ochre frame around windows and doors and ochre stones interrupting the whitewashed corners where two walls meet.
Nowdays many of these houses belong to foreign owners who respect their traditional style and take good care of them. Anyway, the Chora of Patmos has been declared internarional world heritage by Unesco and no one is allowed to alter architectural styles and features.
These houses are very expensive now but their vast majority is inhabited only in the summer and at Easter which is celebrated in a very special atmosphere on Patmos.

La lune est vraiment le sujet principal. Elle est splendide, et sa couleur orangée me plaît particulièrement. Les maisons blanches endormies lui font un beau décor. La courbe naturelle de la montagne laisse une belle place à cette lune.

This must be a beautiful place to visit. The golden moon brigs a very pleasent touch of colors. The light conditions were difficult maybe a higher ISO would help to get it better. The noise is know a bit disturbing.

the photo shows what you said in the note: the houses are empty, no one seems to live in, not a single window is lit.

Hello Ourania,

This is a beautiful photograph! I've just been having a browse through your fine gallery and this one caught my eye.

Perfect composition with a full Moon sitting in a perfect position in the sky above a fine castle. I love how the castle is dark and silhouetted against the dark blue sky and yet the houses in the foreground are more brightly lit.

Perfect exposure and excellent detail. The only thing that lets this one down is the "noise" or graininess in the sky. I hope you don't mind, but I've done a very quick workshop for you to try to reduce the noise a little - see what you think.

This is a wonderful scene. I agree that this one stands out in your gallery. The noise is disturbing and a real pity. This was better shot with higher ISO. PP to fix it (as in WS here) doesn't really create good enough results, imho.

I saw this one on random display in your gallery, it grab me right away, I was slightly disappointed with the small size and resolution, but the quality is as good as ti can get with this size and the composition is really wonderful. the mood is romantic with a slight melodramatic quality. Thanks.

A magic moment well taken and a nice balanced composition well realized! Such an attractive scene with a pleasing atmosphere, the details are so well rendered under a natural light of the night. The shiny full moon is the a real draw that stands out so superbly, an icing on the cake and a real treat. This is tremendous capture rarely seen accompanied by good infor note, Congrats.

Immagine molto romantica della città che si stà addormentando in una bella e limpida serata. Molto bella la disposizione a gradino delle case che con i loro abitanti si preparanno per abbandonarsi al Dio Morfeo. La leggera illuminazione della luna rende visibile questo delicato paesaggio catturato perfettamente. Mi piace molto anche l' inserimento della luna che fà capolino come se volesse augurare a tutti la buona notte. Grazie di questo bellissimo lavoro e dei tuoi bellissimi e competenti, sempre graditi commenti. Un augurio sincero di buona giornata da noi due ... M & D
