Although the building on the left -the cinema-theatre of Lakki- is one of the landmarks of Leros and much loved by inhabitants and guests, I admit I took this picture for the cloud and the colours.
The cinema-theatre is one of the iconic buildings of the Italian Rationalism and was inaugurated in 1938, when Leros was a very important Italian naval base in Southern Aegean. The whole town of Lakki was designed and built to serve the needs and ideals of the Kingdom of Italy. The Theatre was destroyed by bombs during the war and after some years became an open air cinema. About eight years ago it was reconstructed exactly like it was in 1938 and now is very frequently used for performances, concerts and lectures.

although the architecture is really nice,I can only agree with you, that the colors and the amazing looking cloud formation steal the show here!
It´s just great how the clouds emerging from behind the buildings and how they help you to create so strong and expressive graphics of the image.
Well spotted and excellently captured!
Have a nice day

Good morning Ourania,
I can understand why you wanted to take this picture because of the delightful deep blue sky with its lovely soft fluffy clouds, but you have also given us a fine image of this historic cinema-theatre and written an interesting note about it too.
A nice diagonal composition in which the oblique lighting depicts well the fine curvature on the frontage of the cinema and the soft textures of its stonework. And those features are in contrast to the bright blue door and the rough stonework of the nearest building at far right.
A pleasing composition with lovely light and colours, perfect exposure and exquisite details and sharpness.

I remember this cinema-theatre well, but this cloud is a very nice new acquaintance. It's easy to understand you wanted to keep it in your camera. It has a remarkable shape and seems to be resting on the roofs of the rounded buildings. They all seem to be made for each other. Slightly away from the main focus the dark blue gate matches the white walls beside it and the shaded, dark grey wall above it very nicely. There are lots of elements and colours in this picture that fit each other perfectly.

A fine presentation of this simple street scene. The blue door is certainly an eye catcher as is the mass of cloud. I like the curved lines of the two buildings on the corners of the street. Very good technical presentation.

Excellently spotted the beauty of the street corner at this particular moment. I like the contrast between the blue sky and white cloud balancing the contrast between the blue gate and the white building. I like the round shape of the theatre as well, it looks identical to many theatres we have over here. Nice shot with good light and superb contrasting colours. Thanks for sharing.

wow! A fascinating composition with those buildings. You know, from the title it appears to me like smiling face houses, just cartoon type... Excellent picture quality. Nice moody sky at top. Everything with sharp details. Excellent colour tone. A beautiful frame indeed. Tfs.

By now I know the round facade of the cinema house, Ourania, and yes - most impressive element on the image is the towering cloud.
It called Cumulunimbos, a well developed and saturated cloud. The town is under good light, and you verry well show the clear details on photo.

In Belgium are all the small cinemas disappeared, everything big with ten to twenty halls in one building.
I have stopped to go a cinema a lot to much sound.
Technical perfect made, we get a nice architecture to see with the buildings as subject
Nice depth and perspective with very pleasant colours.
Very well compostion, excellent captured.
Nice done, TFS.
Have a nice day,

My first impression was that the cinema was on fire, the clouds looking very much like smoke directly from the roof. But I hope this interesting architecture is still standing, exposing the fine details. The blue fence is a very eye-catching part of the picture.

I can fully see why you took this for the clouds and blue sky, they look superb, and it seems almost as if the clouds are emanating from the buildings themselves! Such beautiful light to illuminate your scene!
And sorry to be weird once more and attach human emotions to buildings, but that building to the right really looks like its telling the cinema some sort of secret, and a gossipy way :) "Well I heard that the house across the road has been caught doing terrible things...." is one of the things it could be saying.
A great shot Ourania, I like that cinema a lot, rounded buildings are so pleasing.
All the best

Hello dear Ourania,
Another interesting capture from Leros. Interesting the round edges of both the cimnema house and the house at the right of it.
Of course a majestic cloudy sky completes your compo perfectly.
TFS and best regards

Well, there's no need to go into the theater for a show when you have one taking place right outside it's doors in such grandeur ! A projection that's not confined to a screen size and changes scenes almost as rapidly as an actual movie if the conditions are right. :)
What a show stopper, I can certainly understand why this cloud formation caught your eye, it has a huge presence. The setting alone would have been interesting, but that big misshapen marshmallow really takes it to another level of interest. As a huge fan of the color blue, I love the connection between the open sky and rectangular gate.
The rounded architecture of the buildings is beautiful in its own regard, always a pleasing display of elegant shape. Despite the seemingly lifeless scene, there's still plenty of anticipation that something is about to happen...of course, a very cinematic quality. ;) Have a great day ahead. All the best.

Well done Ourania, you have produced a really striking image here. The best compositions are always the simplest and your arrangement of two major subjects, the two houses in excellent light and the beautiful blue sky with white clouds, within the horizontal frame certainly has impact. The overall light and color contrast is very good.
Very well done.

Hello dear friend
shot with amazing blue color
the blue color is my favorite and this delightfull
deep blue sky makes me feeling better
simple but nice capture with useful
Didi (60588) 2014-03-13 9:26
Un jolis amas de nuages agrémente ce ciel
L'heure de prise de vue est bien choisie en fonction de la saison
En été il faudra photographier de bonne heure ou tard dans la soirée pour éviter les fortes lumières
nikkitta (17066) 2014-03-13 15:22
Hola Ourania querida
I understand your point of view, such a vibrant blue sky and blue (kind of door)in great contrast with the white cloud and the buildings
Capture taken in diagonal to give perspective and precede with an informative note about the cinema
Well seen and taken
abmdsudi (54555) 2014-03-14 23:42
A simple street scene without a single soul but the bright blue colour of the wall and cloud scape obviously draw viewer providing a nice break of colours and general contrast of the scene. Well done, tfs
mcmtanyel (23309) 2014-03-17 12:11
Now that you mention the cloud, I notice that it looks to be intentionally positioned above the two buildings in the f/g, like a fluffy lid over them. Yes, the blue on the wall is very eye catching.
I am happy to find out that the historic cinema was restored.
macjake (68458) 2014-03-17 14:07
nice to hear that the theatre has been rebuilt back to its earliest form.
love the addition of the wooden fragile shutter on the far right, it contrasts so much with the newer construction.
seems like people here enjoy curves in their buildings :)
and yes, cool clouds too!
