past Aspronissia on the way to Leros, a photo from Dodekanisos, South Aegean

Photographer's Note

I love these waters and travelling among the bigger islands and small islets of this part of the Aegean. The picture was taken from a friend's boat on the way back to Leros from the little island of Marathi. The complex seen in the background is Aspronissia, a really enchanting place with white rocks and crystal clear turquoise waters one can visit on cruise boats from all the big neighbouring islands, including Leros.

Aspronissia is a small island on the east side of the Lipsi archipelago in the Dodecanese, which consists of several islands north of the island of Leros. Except Aspronissia there are more small islands such as Arefousa, Kalapodia, Frango and Plavi. Lispe island itself covers an area of 16 km2, the entire archipelago of islands measures about 23 km2.

Hello Ourania,
This picture represents well the feeling of travelling between the Greek islands.
I like this composition with the diagonal lines (of the mast and the wave in the wake) running towards each other with the view of Aspronissia behind it.

A very appealing composition with a lovely atmosphere to it. The wake from the boat makes an interesting and unusual pointer toward the island in the background. Love those golden reflections.

Summer sail between the islands, seems to me as a daily-life theme in your area, and a lovely theme in photography.
you managed well with the strong sun-light on left, partislly obscured by the boat structure.
Far side islands "frame" nicely the seascape collected.

A strong image and a splendid seaview and just love how the light is sparkling brightly on the water with many sgades. The shimmering sea looks very lively and this really gives a unique contrast nicely. Shooting into the bright light, as I have experienced, is tricky that translates into strong intense light and yet so challenging but the issue of flaring is an unavoidable as shown even this low in the sky, the sun is still very much brighter than everything else so you end up with a bit of a yellowy-white blobs as your main centres of attention. In reality, the sea would probably be at least one stop darker than the sky/sun. At the end of the day it is all a matter of artistic choice - either to grab attention by presenting something that we don't naturally see or to present a version of a natural occurence. I think you have done your utmost to control the exposure to best of your abliity. Well done

είναι μία απλή,συνηθισμένη αλλά και τόσο αγαπημένη η σκηνή που κατέγραψες με τον φακό σου,
το 1/500 του δευτ. έδωσε μία καταπληκτική ευκρίνεια και φωτισμό στην φωτογραφία που κοιτάζοντάς την δίνει την αίσθηση ότι βρίσκεσαι ο ίδιος πάνω στο σκάφος!

Hello Ourania,

This are very difficult pictures for take, through the strong sun this works as overexposure.
Nevertheless a very nice picture with the structure of the long wave.
This care for depth and perspective.
Your colors are attractive and excellent composition.

Tu as osé le contre-jour sujet très particulier
Certes le soleil est masqué par le cadrage.
C'est très intéressant
Aussi je t'encourage à photographier des vues avec une direction de la lumière latérale et cela donnera du relief à l'image

Una foto molto artistica. Mi piace molto il modo in cui il sole ha giocato con le parte della barca. Bellissima anche il mare selvaggio e quelle montagne nel sfondo.

Άλλη μια "απλή" στην ιδέα της φωτογραφία, όπου όμως το αποτέλεσμα δεν είναι καθόλου "απλό". Εξαίσιο κάδρο και καλός χρονισμός αναδεικνύουν το θέμα και δίνουν αυτή την αίσθηση (τουλάχιστον σε πολλούς από εμάς) ότι αυτή τη φωτογραφική στιγμή την έχω ζήσει κι εγώ! Αυτό το οπτικό deja vu έρχεται και δένει με τα υπέροχα χρώματα. Μπράβο!

You are lucky to have on island hopping trip with your friend's boat. The opportunity of great picture was not missed with this stunning high key image. Lovely ripples from the engine with beautiful island in the background like saying "I'll come back again".
