Photographer's Note

Sailboats about to start the last leg of the 2nd International Italo-Hellenic Friendship Race. After four off-shore races to Patmos, Didim (Turkey), Kalymnos and back to Leros, the final race took place in the gulf of Lakki, the largest natural harbour in the Mediterranean.
In fact, it looks like a huge lake, that's why Lakki was named Porto Lago (port-lake) by the Italians who chose it as an important naval base in the first half of the 20th cent.
The opening of the gulf, that can be seen behind the boats, is only about 400m wide. The vantage point is at the seaside of Merikia.

Wow! I wouldn't mind being in one of those sailboats! Looks like a beautiful day to go sailing. The water looks calm but looking at the sails there's enough wind. Great pov and dof with nice details. Well done, tfs.

An attractive postcard image from this harbour with the two contrasting white yatchs as main interest nicely fit in the composition. Lighting is brillliant, crispy sharp in rich color tones which add up to a fine overall scene. This is an excellent fast action shot perfectly executed no doubt. Well done. Congrats

a yet simple, but alwys calssical motive down there in the mediteranean/aegean sea.. like a lot the placement of the boats, the colors look truly magnificent..

Στην Θεσσαλονίκη έχουμε τις αλκυονίδες ημέρες και ο καιρός είναι ότι πρέπει για ιστιοπλοΐα. Πολύ όμορφος συνδυασμός τα ιστιοπλοϊκά με τα λευκά πανιά να ατενίζουν το απέραντο πέλαγος και η θάλασσα ήρεμη, γαλήνια. Μια εικόνα που πάντα συναρπάζει.

You placed the boats perfect to the leftside, this gives more space with view to the sea.

That's life, Ourania, sit on a sail-boat and have a great time out at sea.
Nice taken scene on the bay, calm sea and fine light.
Boats position off-center of the pic., gave space for the horizon beyond the bay opening.

It is amazing what a difference good lighting can make to photograph. The sailing boats are in excellent soft light. This shot wouldn’t have been nearly as good if taken under midday sun. Excellent composition with these two boats and excellently lit sea water makes this photo very good. The tight crop eliminates distractions and create more attractive image. Well done.

I can see why this place is popular for boats such as these, natural harbours like this are not easy to find, it's a beautiful close up of the vessels themselves in full wind, they have a beautiful fresh feeling and your shot feels very alive. Really nicely done :)

Νομίζω ότι το μαύρο και άσπρο εικόνα που είναι επίσης ελκυστική. Θα αφαιρεθεί ένα μικρό νησί στα δεξιά είναι καλύτερα. Πολύ καλά.

Good sharpness and a lovely pastiche of blue and white. Well composed with both the yachts and the horizon on the 1/3 axis. I like the subtle reflections in the sea. Good graphism & light management with no visible oe in the highlights. Tfs!

Ahh this looks like a mummy boat and a baby boat! What a beautiful crisp day you have encountered, where the colours are so beautifully rendered and the lines so clean and immaculate. This is my type of shot. It's simple, clean and minimalistic. Yet it exudes a sense of freedom and peace. I like it alot.

The two boats are well placed in the composition, making a fine work and creating balance. Also good contrast between white sail and dark blue sea. Good work, congratulations!
