Photographer's Note

Grapes hanging from a pergola over the front yard of a house in Crithoni. Many houses keep arbors in their yards but there are not large vineyards on Leros even though the soil is good and adequate. There is a local winery, a family business, that produces two kinds of red wine named Iokallis, after goddess Artemis considered by the ancients matron of the island. The production is only about 3000 bottles for both varieties and it is sold exclusively in the winery or can be found in certain local restaurants.

These are wine grapes about to be harvested.

According to Wikipedia:(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grape#
Table_and_wine_grapes):

Table grape cultivars tend to have large, seedless fruit with relatively thin skin. Wine grapes are smaller, usually seeded, and have relatively thick skins (a desirable characteristic in winemaking, since much of the aroma in wine comes from the skin). Wine grapes also tend to be very sweet: they are harvested at the time when their juice is approximately 24% sugar by weight.

Thank you for visiting, a great weekend to all
