Photographer's Note
The beautiful old Sponge Factory building that lies on the dockside in Kalymnos Harbour in the Greek Islands. This barren island in the southeastern Aegean Sea could not offer a living to the islanders, so they turned to the sea for their survival with fishing and sponge collecting becoming the main occupations. Replaced nowadays by more modern diving techniques, sponge collecting was notoriously risky and many lives were lost. Nowadays tourism is the main stream of island income, but some traditional sponges are still harvested and sold on the island.

Hi Brian
now thats a funky subject!
you always find a way to get your blues.
bet your eyes lit up like a kid in a candy store when you saw this one.
cropped to its maximum potential, it highlights the stones, windows/doors, and blue colors.
a truly unique subject and well documented note too.

Brian
Un cadrage parfait et une jolie utilisation des tons bleus sur cette façade qui a vaguement des airs d'éponge!

Good work on the composition, playing with the pattern drawn by the blue spots. In this way, I like you kept the blue stripe on the top. I feel it is for a big part in the impact of this shot.

Hello Brian,
Yes, there's nothing quite like the luxury of a real sponge - far, far better than these horrid plastic foam things. But the term "Sponge Factory" sounds a bit odd - I thought they just collected the things from the bottom of the sea - there can't really be any manufacturing process is there?
But this is a fine photograph of this old building, taken with a good symmetrical composition and demonstrating some wonderfully vibrant colours and strong textures. The stonework is lovely and is in stark contrast to the tatty bright blue paintwork.
Fabulous colours, good strong lighting, perfect esxposure and your usual exquisite sharpness.
Lovely!
Kind Regards,
John.
P.S. As you seem to be getting lots of "virus warnings" from the forum here, I sent you an email message via TE the other day. Did you get it?

Hi Brian,
Earlier my laptop crashed just when I had finished critiquing this photo so I will start again! I love the unusual quality of the vivid blue against the stone facade. Good symmetry and clever framing has made a most unusual and wonderful image of this sponge factory. Excellent.
Kind Regards, Ann

Hi Brian, the factory itself looks like a sponge. Simole, yet lovely photo with its vibrant texture. Congratulations.
