Photographer’s Note
My Time Is Yours
----------------
Today a different post. Details from the old clock tower in Meligala. I tried to be artistic and apart from my normal way of thinking and PPing. The shot took place a summer afternoon with my old EOS 400D nearly minutes before it got dark.
Post processing included:
1. Cropping
2. Contrast enhancements
3. Luko's USM
4. Converted to Sepia color
5. Added border/copyright/title
6. Resizing for TE
7. Another pass of Luko's USM

--------------
Meligala is the site of a battle and massacre during the Greek Civil War (1944-1949) on September 2-16, 1944, during and after fighting between EAM-ELAS commanded by Aris Velouchiotis and the Security Battalions stationed in the town. After a 14 day siege, the Security Battalion commanders negotiated a cease-fire and surrender. What resulted instead was the forced march and summary execution of the Battalionists along with 1,500 non-combatant civilians from the town. They were buried in a mass grave--a well shaft--known as "pigada". The Greek Government, from 1949 to 1974 participated in the memorial services at the site of the mass graves. After 1974, government representation at the memorial services was banned.
This is the place where the battle was fought.
P.S. I want to tell you all how grateful I am for your comments. TE Policy does not permit "excessive thank you replies", so I have to thank you all once and in the description. I wish I could thank you everyone in person.

Geia sou Niko,
Nice to discover this great shot and the artistic treatement of this historical clock. So much people lost their live in Messinia during the bloody nazi occupation of Greece. It's important to remember it. Ta leme. Xairetw,

Hi Nick,
this is my favourite shot of yours. You managed to give this old rusty watch a life...a timeless notion converting it into sepia. Looking at original, this is just an old rusty clock...very one dimensional. By enhancing the contrast with carefully thought sepia conversion you give it another dimension. Now this rust feels like engraved wounds of time, it feels like tears and pain leaking from the past on those massive grave. A remainder that will not fade. Excellent work.
Warm regards,
Jeri

Hello Nick,
just finished browsing your gallery, a belated welcome to you ;)
I like this one the most - its certainly different from just a postcard. The textures are enjoyable, and you connected the meaning nicely with the subject. A bit more different angle would add even more interest to this shot I think, but very nice anyway...
ta leme!

Hi Nick, Quite an effective angle and the close-up gives a enchanted look about it. The strong black frame emphasises this clockface. TFS. Murray
It occured to me it could be used as the backdrop for a modern watch advertisement.
