Another photo from Voidokilia beach, which is one of my favourite beaches in Greece.
Voidokilia, which means Ox's belly, owes its name to its shape.

Big dunes surround the bay at Voidokilia and protect it from the harsh winds. Paleokastro -enetian castle- is situated on the southern side of the bay.

Voidokilia is definitely the most popular beach in Messinia. Like a water theater, it consists of an almost perfectly round bay of fine sand, which closes inside it crystal clear turquoise waters. Near the beach a big rock offers shade. The area is considered of archaeological interest, so it has remained intact by civilization. There is a relievingly quiet atmosphere, despite the people who visit the beach. You can go there through Petrochori by covering some metres of dirt road, until you reach the beach where there id usually parking space.
