Photographer’s Note

Monemvassia (Greek: Μονεμβασία, Μονεμβάσια, Μονεμβασιά), and known by the Franks as Malvasia, is a well-known medieval fortress with an adjacent town, located on a small peninsula off the east coast of the Peloponnese in the Greek prefecture of Laconia. The peninsula is linked to the mainland by a short causeway 200m in length. The ruins include the defensive structures and many Byzantine churches. The town's name derives from two Greek words, mone and emvassia, meaning "single entrance". Many of the streets are narrow and fit only for pedestrians. The bay of Palaia Monemvassia is to be found to the north. Monemvassia's nickname is the Gibraltar of the East or The Rock. The rock is 300 m tall and 1.8 km long...etc.

Hello Georgios,
A very well composed picture and nice natural colours. I like your rocks on the foreground and find this a beautiful presentation of the 'Gibraltar' of the Peloponnesos.
In April I visited Monemvasia and it's really a wonderful site with splendid views in all directions.

Good warm cold colour contrasts between the rocky red tinged islet & the blue sky. The fg triangle of blue grey rocks in the bottom left corner, adds depth. Great sharpness & colour. Tfs!

This is an interesting geological formation, and as I understand from your note has been used as a fortification in the old days..!
Strong foreground creates depth, good sharpness in a wide DoF...

Beautiful view of this exceptional site of Monemvasia. For me one of the most beautiful village of Greece with fantastic medieval architecture. Your photo shows how the village melt into the environment.
