Photographer’s Note

Hello.This Sparta and a part of mount Taygetos (2407m height). I wanted to take this shot for a long time,but i was dificult for me.Reason ? I had to wake up early in order to catch the sunrise.Later the snow is so white,that there is no way to get a "good" shot at least with my camera. Even this shot was dificult, although sun was not so bright. At auto settings,photos where useless,snow overburned,else shadows were black.At manual settings and spot photometering in not snowed hills,i got this result.Hope you like it :) Waiting for suggestions!

Lovely shot - well worth the effort. I find that the buildings give a lot of interest to the shot and really emphasise how insignificant we are....they are so tiny compared to the fabulous mountains behind.

Beautiful scenery, impressive mountains, the early morning light is fantastic. The buldnings in the town give a sense of scale in comparison to the magnificent surrounding landscape. Well worth getting up early in the morning, well done!

A lovely photo with such great colours. I'd say your early morning was justified with the result. There is a nice contrast with the snowy mountains at the top of the shot and the town below, with the paths winding their way up the mountain in the middle of the photo. There is a lot to look at on this. Nice work.

Beautiful photo! The mountain is breathtaking. I really like the soft lighting, I think it works well with the subject. You have truly captured a great image, and oh by the way I don't blame you for the "Difficulty" taking the photo.(Not A morning person myself!) But the results were well worth it I'd say.

Very impressive view (is it just me, or does this evoke "Lord of the Rings" photography?). The composition is well balanced, but something about the horizontal "banding" of different brightnesses bothers the eye a bit. I think it would require quite a bit of careful post-processing to fix that though... Overall it is still a magnificent image.

Very nice picture!! I like the town in the foreground and the incredible enlightened mountains in the background. The sun underlined the snow limit and that gives a great panorama. Well done Nikolaos.

Hi Nick,
Wow, the city looks dwarfed by the beautiful large mountains behind. I didnt realise modern Sparta was so big.
Very well captured and great light, It really was worth it to wake up that early.

Γεια σου Νίκο,
πολυ όμορφη εικόνα και εξαιρετικά καθαρή. Είναι ωραία να είσαι κοντά στον Πενταδάκτυλο. Το βουνό είναι πολύ πιο όμορφο όταν είναι χιονισμένο. Η Σπάρτη χαμηλά δείχνει υποταγμένη στον Ταυγετο αλλά πουθενά αλλού !!!.
