Photographer’s Note

The famous Diro Cave located in south Lakonia region almost 12km (if I'm not mistaken) south of Areopoli town. The caves are part of an underground river, and the 5,000 meters that have been exposed are fascinating. From the entrance, skillful, whistling gondoliers steer small boats through narrow passageways, and take you to explore 2.000 meters around beautiful formations of stalagmites and stalactites as you see in the picture.
Their colors created by rain water penetrating the calcium carbonate in the rock. The caves have served as places of worship in Paleolithic and Neolithic times as they are thought by many to be connected to the Underworld.

The whole cave is unexplored until today, because of its huge depth.

Some photo technical notes:
This one was extremely difficult to capture, I was on the small gondola which was moving quite fast, and you didn't know where to look at, admire, and take a picture. In most of my shots I had to synchronize my body with the gondolas speed in order to take clear pictures. Though I'm happy with my settings I wish I had an f/2.8 or f/1.4 even better Lenses, which would make my job really easier.
As you can see from the EXIF data, f minimum for achieving good lighting, ISO 800 (not 1600 to avoid noise) and shutter speed 1/60, flash fired (even though in some cases is forbidden), and ofcourse my body synchronization on the scene.

The autofocus (AF) was also a problem, it couldn't find a focus point, since many parts of the cave are in black.
In some cases I played manually (MF).

Post Processing notes:
- Clarify and Levels adjustment in order to increase the exposure.
- Chromatic Noise removed also

I hope you like it!

The ones who will visit Greece again, this place worth to devote some time to explore, as the 12 euros fee is not even compared with the beauty inside.

Caves are usually difficult places to take pictures, but you've done it perfectly! The detail of the little waves on the water is great! Well done!

a real good job in difficult light conditions file mou, but i see that it is no problem for you... the cave is beautiful yes, but what makes this shot so special is the circular waves on the water of course... congratulations once again...

Να και φωτό του σπηλαίου άρτια τεχνικά!Μπράβο Στέλιο,με τις συνθήκες που επικρατούν στο σπήλαιο και το κούνημα της βαρκούλας κατάφερες ένα απίστευτο αποτέλεσμα!

Πραγματικα εντυπωσιακη φωτο μ απιθανα χρωματα και ισοκαταμερισμενες επιφανειες μεταφερουν το κλειστοφοβικο αισθημα της σπηλιας. Καταπκηκτικοι ειναι κι οι κυκλοι στην επιφανεια του νερου που δινουν αμεσοτητα στην θεαση. Πολυ καλη

Το να φωτογραφίσεις ένα σπήλαιο είναι από μόνο του δύσκολο. Το να φωτογραφίσεις ένα σπήλαιο από βάρκα και ειδικά με τον εξαιρετικό τρόπο που το έκανες εσύ αποτελεί κατόρθωμα. Το αποτέλεσμα είναι φανταστικό, πολύ ωραία σύνθεση, υπέροχα χρώματα. Άψογη χρήση του φλας, δεν "φαίνεται" οτι χρησιμοποιήθηκε φλας, γι αυτό και είναι άψογη. Όπως σε όλες τις φωτογραφίες σου, κατατοπιστικότατο και το σημείωμα, στοιχείο πολύ σημαντικό για το ΤΕ. Συγχαρητήρια!

Από τις λίγες εκδρομές που μετάνιωσα:
α) που δεν προτίμησα την φωτογραφική μου από την βιντεοκάμερα.
β) που φοβήθηκα τα "απαγορεύεται" μέσα στη βάρκα
γ) που δεν πήρα την επόμενη βάρκα στην οποία δεν ήταν το παιδάκι που έκλαιγε καθ'όλη τη διάρκεια της διαδρομής και ακούγεται και στο βίντεο που κατάφερα να τραβήξω μέσα από το μπουφάν μου.
Πανέμορφο το αποτέλεσμα, κάτι που δεν θα βρούμε σε καμία καρτ ποσταλ.

Στέλιο καλησπέρα,
εξαιρετική η λήψη σου με τόσο δύσκολες συνθήκες φωτισμού και κίνησης.Έχω ιδία πείρα τουλάχιστον από τις λήψεις μου πάνω από πλοία που τρέχουν σε συνδιασμό με κυματισμό της θάλασσας.Κάτω από αυτές τις συνθήκες η φωτό σου είναι τέλεια.Ιδιαίτερα εντυπωσιακοί είναι οι κύκλοι που σχηματίζονται στην επιφάνεια του νερού και το ότι χρησιμοποίησες φλας.

Όταν είχαμε επισκεφτεί το σπήλαιο, ο βαρκάρης μας είχε απαγορεύσει να βγάλουμε φωτογραφίες. Ούτε λήψη βίντεο μας επέτρεψε. Εδώ κάτι διαφορετικό συνέβη. Δεν πειράζει φτάνει που βλέπουμε εικόνες του όμορφου αυτού σπηλαίου από σένα. Η λήψη είναι χωρίς υπερβολές καταπληκτική! Το φλας κάλυψε μεγάλη περιοχή και ο φακός κατέγραψε πολύ καλά και την παραμικρή λεπτομέρεια. Οι κύκλοι στο νερό μου αρέσουν πολύ!
