Photographer’s Note
‘Korinthos (Κόρινθος) - the tree of Korinthos’
On the picture you see one of the most photographed trees in whole Greece.
The reason why so many pictures of this tree in Ancient Corinth have been taken is the fact that it stands right in front of the Temple of Apollo, a survival of the Classical Greek era.
From http://www.ancientcorinth.net/templeofapollo.aspx :
The Archaic Temple of Apollo is a Doric peripteral temple, constructed around 540 BC, originally consiting of 6 by 15 monolithic columns quarried from the limestone ridge near the location of the temple.
Today only 7 of its original 38 Doric columns are still standing.
They are about 4 meters tall and 2 meters in diameter. The stylobate measures 54 by 21 meters.
The temple which stands on the hill above the Roman forum at Corinth is one of the Greek buildings which the Roman colonists restored for their use.
It had been built to replace an even earlier temple on the same spot.

Hi Paul,
thans for sharing that. I was there couple of years ago but with a pretty simple analog camera and my pictures are pretty bad. So I am happy to see that again.
You have a very difficult light but you did the best out of it.
I like very much the composition with the tree.
Very nice presentation,
Regards,

Paul,
This is a well composed shot using the tree to provide framing for the ruins. The lighting and colors are fine with excellent sharpness and detail. The nice blue sky provides a nice backdrop for the scene.

Hello Paul -
Very nice travel image. I like the idea of using the tree as a framing tool as it adds so much to the scene. With a lack of BG interest (clouds etc) you needed to do something to make the scene work. Your light management is spot on considering a midday photograph. Well done.
Thank you for sharing

I've read Peppe's criticism, and I have to say that near Agrigento there's the famous Valle dei Templi", a magnificent site in which there are splendid Temples like this one that you posted. I hope one day to post one of these temples.

Salut Paul,

Salutations !

Hi Paul,
this is what I call a very classical approach and top class composition. the blue dramatic sky and a very detailed columns of artistic nature.
The perspective of lines on the pavement.
The natural framing of the tree branch is very effective. all in all, a very brilliant capture with powerful visual impact.
Very captivating shot.

Hi Paul.
Ohhh... Doric style. It's the purest of all the Greek styles and is great.
Aegina island has a famous doric temple (Athina Afaia) and it looks a fantastic temple.
Your photo has been very well composed too and that tree is a wonderful natural frame.
Well done.

Hello Paul
Interesting unassuming title! The temple of Apollo, in ruins, neatly framed by the tree and its yellow blossoms, against the blue sky. Without the tree, would this picture be as interesting? I doubt! Good work!
