Prastós 2, a photo from Arkadia, Peloponnesus

Photographer's Note

From the past years of Ottoman ruling, Prastós had begun to share its importance with Leonidio which was already the second place of residence of Prastiótes.
Proof of this is important way of living are the famous mansions of Tsikalioti, Efstathiou, Katsikogianni, Hatzipanayioti, dating to the early years of the 19th century and also the remains of the three districts beautifully decorated with tall towers, beautiful churches, aqueducts, stately mansions which still standing and testify of the great History and culture of Prastós.

During the 18th century and the first years of the 19th, Prastós was flourishing,
with the population of over 7000 inhabitants.
At that time flourishing trade and navigation were very prosperous and the goods of Prastós were traded all the way to Istanbul, Russia, Turkey, Egypt and France.
The local goods and products were usually shipped by boats through Hydra and Spetses ports and the major shareholders were Prastiótes merchants.
Because of this lucrative trade Prastós had developed a significant economic power
and had become the historic capital of Tsakoniá.
The three districts, the strength and luster of the old Prastós, was extinguished in 1826 following a fire by Ibrahim.
The Prastiótes trying to escape from the destructive onslaught of Ibrahim fled to Leonidio "the safe place", according to Theodoros Kolokotronis.
They brought several of their wealth and built their new mansions there.
Great and important was the participation of Prastiotes, at the start of the revolution of 1821 headed by Captain Giorgakis, and the rich ship owners (Hadjipanayiotis, Trochanis ) offered many ships and money during this war.

The picture is taken under heavy rain and you can see the fog coming down the hill in the background.
It is also a picture dedicated to my mother.

Ciao Eleni
questa di oggi ci porta il profumo della primavera che si avvicina a grandi passi.
Tu l'hai anticipata con questa composizione nella quale i verdi saturi fanno un ottimo comtrasto con i tetti delle case. Peccato per il cielo grigio, per via della nebbia che si intravede sulla collina, ma a ravvivare il tutto ci hanno pensato i fiori di rosa dell'albero, gradevoli nel contrasto con i rami cupi.

This is the kind of delightful image I'm longing for as winter always seems too long and boring to me. Your picture really conveys a somehow optimistic and friendly atmosphere to the viewer. The blossom covered branches produce a fine sense of depth add a spring vitality to this scenery. The fresh green grass looks superbly bright and makes the red roofs nicely stand out. A very pleasant reminder of those days which, I hope, will be coming soon.

Great shots can be done in bad weather like what you did. Good job! Specks of bold reds catch attention and urge viewers to explore deeper boosting the overall effect to this wonderously rural landscape. Even without a hint of sunlight but still a breathtaking view with lots of lively colors, beautiful natural farming in the fg, and the glimpse of foggy distant. Wonderful shot and tx for sharing, Congrats.

I enjoy eading notes with interesting history enfolded.
Even with rain the pic. is a vivid scenery, with the Almond trees in great white, seasonally blosom on march, like here in Israel.
Nice red-roof-tops and i especially looked into the archi.-details on the houses.

The combination of green grass and red roofs is very attractive. Furthermore, the tree is a very good addition to the picture as it provides depth and very pleasant colours of all the blossoms in early spring. Interesting to see how the mist is covering the top of the hills across.

This ridge is very similar to one in Portugal called (Piódão). People at such places are different from the ones who are used to the urbanism. In Piódão there are goats spread which give the milk and cheese. Try to localize the place I am talking about to compare. Most houses in Piódão are made of stone while here I find a connstruction more recent. But I liked to live in such places because life belongs me and is only one. However the local people may be kind or not. This tree in blossom seems to be a almond one but I am not sure. Warm regards. Tomi. (António Domingos)
