Nafplio and the stairs Photo

Photographer’s Note

Long time has passed since my last "Greek" photo, so here's one for a change.

Here you can see part of the old town of Nafplio, a photo taken from the walls of Palamidi castle. You can also see some of the 999 stairs on the road that connects the town with the castle.

On the edge of the small peninsula, you can probably see some of the walls of Akronafplia, the second castle of the town. On that islet in the gulf, you can see Bourtzi, the third castle of Nafplio, a beautiful picturesque town, ideal for romantic escapes, about 150 km from Athens, but also a town with great history. Nafplio was the first capital of the New Greek State, right after the liberation of the country from the Ottoman Empire.

Hello Hercules,
A spectacular view with great depth and a fine DOF. It combines several elements that I find very Greek: ancient structures, rocky hills, turquoise water, blue sky. (Admittedly this could also have been Italy or Croatia).

A well conceived photo with excellent viewpoint, Hercules. The foreground steps give the photo great depth. The sharpness is maintained all the way to those mountains. This looks like a lovely town, and your note about the town and its castles is interesting. Breathtaking landscape, well done.

Whoaaaaa...this is the fourth aeriel shot this evening i am commenting on..and have have to admit..this is the best of the lot..some thing that i would like to see on the national geogpahic cover ! :))

Awesome angle. I really like how the steps mirror the outline of the coastline in the background ("reaching" towards the far end of the picture). As always the colors, contrast and sharpness are pefect. Also interesting to see the 3 distinct areas that are represented by 3 different colors (blue=sea, green=nature, red=urban setting). Well spotted and taken.
