Nafplio nights (3 Years in TE) Photo

Photographer’s Note

Today is my 3rd TE-"Birthday" and I decided to "celebrate" it with my favourite kind of photography, a nightshot. Most of the time it's been a great pleasure, there were some bad times too, because of some "strange" (imho) decisions from the mods.

Meeting new friends with whom we share the same passion, sometimes "person to person", has always been the best part, and I hope I 'll meet many more of them, personally in the future ( I have a small surprise for some of them in 2 weeks time!).

Of course, I cannot underestimate the role of TE in my personal development as a photographer, thanks to many members and friends, I think that since my first post, there is some "progress".

On the other hand, it was a great dissapontment, seing this 3 years, many great photographes leaving the site, a fact that caused some kind of deterioration on the site's content. Thank God, some of them are back (for example, atha2pan )!

ABOUT THE PHOTO
A panoramic night view of Nafplio, a photo taken from Palamidi castle. If you want to read more about this beautiful town, check one of my previous posts (***Nafplio sunset***). Both photos were taken on the same evening. Going up and down, the 999 stairs that connect the town and the castle, twice, isn't easy.
Especially when you are carrying a bag with 2 cameras, 5 lenses, a tripod and, most important,... your wife :-)))

PS. Of course, there is a good side in the "carrying you wife with you" thing. Having to carry a heavy camera bag and a tripod, all day long, for 10-15 days every month, 12 months a year, for 4 years now, has caused some trouble and pain on my back and neck. So the waiting time, between the "golden" and the "blue" hour is the perfect time for a soothing massage ;-) Not to mention the great company on what most of the times are the loneliest hours of the day...

Hello Hercules! You were carrying your wife :))) I have to tell that Benno so he can carry me uphill next time too. LOL. Three years, yes many have left, and some came back. It is a time-consuming thing and yet I still like it in many ways but a little break here and there is healthy too every once in a while. Great shot and it gives back what you have learned over these years but I am sure you were a talent before TE. Great the two lamps shining up like diamonds, they make the picture alive, they let it SHINE. Wonderful, also the wide view you gave. I hope you share such views with us, also in the future, but most important with your wife. Happy day, Barbara.

Happy TE birthday! 3 years seem such a long time to me... and thinking to the amount of awfully good photos that you have posted you can be really proud of it.
If the term "spectacular" didn't existed it would have to be invented for this photo. You are really good at night photos and you are relly good in choosing the best sites. Composed and achieved perfectly. Such a pleasure to see.

Hi Hercules,

No problem for your big gun machine, clarity and brightness on top, perfect exposure where also the city lights look perfect. Those stars in front look great, but also your composition with that beautiful blue inside is a real winenr here. Maybe the front on the rocks is a bit too bright, leaving that a bit more dark would have give you even more contrast and depth, but nevertheless a very strong shot.

Hi, Hercules -

Happy TE birthday!

A lovely shot, and a tribute to a patient wife! :-) Interesting that you were able to get the starburst effect from that light in the lower fg at f/11; I'd thought you needed a smaller f-stop for that. A sweeping panorama overall, and a great blue hour capture with complex lighting.

As for the site itself, well, everything changes and not always for the better. I've had the feeling now for a while that critiques aren't what they ought to be - pointing out both the good and the bad about a photo. That drives away both the people who resent such critiques and the people who were expecting them. Also, there's always a fatigue factor; I've cut back myself on participating here, partly for that reason. (Another reason is that my focus is shifting to photos that aren't really suitable for TE.)

A ver si luego puedo poner una foto (quiero hacerlo desde hace varios días, pero tengo el ordenador hecho un caos absoluto).

En fin... primero, enhorabuena tanto por la foto como por tu tercer aniversario en TE.

my congrats on 3 years on TE and what a wonderful shot you chose to celebrate this event. Exposure is perfect and I love the glowing city, as well as the star effect of the lights (I`m surprised it already worked at f/11, I always needed f/16+). Wonderful one, I like it a lot, great one!

Hi Hercules,
this is a spectacular panorama.
The blue hour makes it probably much more interesting than in the daylight.
The detals are amazing, and in this sense the shot is so rich: you see not only the coast but some nice streets, plants, rocks, beaches, parking etc.
The two lights which turned into stars are also enriching the shot.
Very interesting and beautiful.
