Photographer’s Note

Some of the TE friends asked me what is on the plate.The answer is a variety of fresh beans with finely chopped garlic and a piece of lemon on the right.

Lemonakia beach, Samos Island

Lemonakia (the word means “small lemons” in Greek) is a rather small beach, 400 meters long, with pebbles; the sea is not very deep and very clean but, as it happens with many of the beaches at the northern coast, it is not protected from the northern winds that raise high waves when blowing. The beach is found at a distance of some 12 kilometers north-western to the town of Samos, a bit off the circular road of the northern coast connecting the town of Samos with Karlovasi, in short distance after Kokkari and beside the beach of Tsamadou.

Η σχετικά μικρή παραλία (400 περίπου μέτρα) Λεμονάκια με βότσαλο βρίσκεται σε απόσταση 12 περίπου χιλιόμετρα βορειοδυτικά από την πρωτεύουσα, τα νερά της δεν είναι πολύ βαθιά νερά, αλλά είναι πολύ καθαρά και είναι απροστάτευτη από τους βόρειους ανέμους που σηκώνουν μεγάλα κύματα όταν φυσούν. Η παραλία βρίσκεται λίγο έξω από τον περιφερειακό δρόμο της βόρειας ακτής του νησιού που ενώνει την Σάμο και το Καρλόβασι λίγο μετά το Κοκκάρι, δίπλα ακριβώς στην παραλία Τσαμαδού.

Hi, Danos. I like your foreground with the plate and the glasses giving us the impression we are sitting at the table enjoying the view. There are nice green and blue tones in the sea and the boat on the horizon adds some contrast.

An iinvitation to enjoy a glass of wine looking at the beach, a relaxing scenery. The point of view leads our eyes toward the horizon which is giving depth to the composition. You have searched the depth of field with closed diaphragm but perhaps the time has beeb long with an effect of light moved.

No problem to recognize the food, I would eat it, but I'm actually even more interested in the white wine. Is that a Greek wine, is it dry or??? I'm always interested in wine. It's a fine shot with high color saturation and fine sharpness. Well done

Looks like a fine way to wile away a spare hour or 2. The azure sea makes a fine backdrop. Good sharpness, colour & framing. I'd prefer cheese to beans, even though it has more cholesterol. I'd settle for calomari, though!

Hello Danos,

Here is a photograph which will give me appetite rather than envisaged, I hardly have just had my breakfast !!! One with the impression to eat the feet in water here, which could not be unpleasant. An inviting table!

I keep many good memories of your wonderful country and the food is surely one of them, even if I suspect that I knew mostly the worse kind of it, the one served in hotels and tourists restaurants. Besides the food itself, a thing that I liked much in Crete, it's the quantity of inviting restaurants by the seaside or even above water, like this one looks to be. It's said that the eyes also need to eat, in places like the one you show here, they eat not only the food but also but also the view to that clear emerald sea. And we can't forget the wine... Ah, that's really paradise! It sounds that I am not saying anything about the photo? Wrong!!! I see all of that in the photo! Thank you for sharing with us this plate of food and the wine!

Hi Danos!
This photo is just paradisiac! Who wouln't like to be there enjoying a meal with a glass of local wine and some local bread, in front of the infinity of the sea! The presence of the tiny ship in the horizon, adds to the impression of immensity! Your POV makes it look as though you had your feet literally in water!
I also like the different colours of the sea and the colour of the table which adds yet another shade of blue!
Moreover, I am very much interested in the content of the plate! In Greece, I have only visited Crete, and I was delighted that they eat so many different vegetables, and that their meals remain very frugal, without feeling the neccessity to eat meat all the time!
Your picture corroborates that experience, and makes people's mouths water with a very simple meal!
