[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Thimiana is located 7 km to the South of the city of Hios, 10 min by car. It is among the larger villages on the island with approximately 1600 inhabitants. The village used to be called "Efthymiana", that is place renowned for its many quarries from which the "Thimiana" stone was extracted in many shades of brown and red. The Thymiana stone is an excellent ornamental material for buildings. Many mansions and churches in Kambos are built with this stone. The village of Thimiana has a primary school, sports associations, a swimming club, a cultural club as well as the large church dedicated to Ayos Efstratios, a masterpiece of local architecture, also built with the well-known Thimiana stone. Near the church of Ayos Efstratios one may enjoy the Garden of Fatourou. Thymiana is also known for its Carnival, called Mostra by the locals.


Τα Θυμιανά είναι ένα χωριό της Νότιας Χίου, σε απόσταση 7 χιλιομέτρων από την πόλη (Χώρα) της Χίου. Υπάγεται στο Δήμο Αγίου Μηνά, μαζί με το διπλανό χωριό Νεοχώρι ή Νεχώρι. Επίνειό του θεωρείται η Αγία Ερμιόνη, όπου και βρίσκεται αλιευτικό καταφύγιο. Κοντινές παραλίες είναι ο Μέγας Λιμιώνας και ο Καρφάς, περιοχή με ιδιαίτερη τουριστική ανάπτυξη. Το χωριό είναι γνωστό κυρίως για την κοκκινωπή πέτρα που παράγει, τη λεγόμενη «θυμιανούσικη πέτρα», που χρησιμοποιήθηκε κατά κόρον για την κατασκευή των αρχοντικών στον διπλανό Κάμπο. Διάσημη γιορτή είναι η «Μόστρα των Θυμιανών», τις Απόκριες, με άρματα και παραδοσιακούς χορούς του χωριού (ταλίμι).

nice entrance of this house, well composed capture, but in my opinion a little bit to big framed..would have liked to see more of this beautiful (so it´s seemed to be..) house.
