Mesta is the unique village of Chios island, where all the houses of the village are conjoint,united in one.There are two entrances in the village and only one square, called "livadi"=filed. There is the biggest church of the island, devoted to Archangel Michael or Taxiarchis. Mesta is the only village of the south of Chios, which survived intact from the earthquake of 1881. It is said, because all the houses of the vilage were united...During carnival, there is a big feast of "Agas"=Aga or Sybarite. 3 people are dressed like Turks Aga of the village and they force the peasants to pay their annual taxes, head money. And of course all the incoming is going for charity aim...
