Photographer’s Note

here history The name Edessa
is related to the ancient Phrygian and means tower in the water or town on the water. In 814 BC Heraklides "Karanos" makes it the first kingdom of Macedonians and the fate of the city is identified with the history of Macedonia. Ancient, byzantine but also industrial finds, testify the town's history. Romans, Slavs, Ottomen as well as occasionals pass from its history.

On 18th October 1912 the town was liberated and incorporated to the Hellenic State as capital of the prefecture of Pella. In 1923 it is supported by Greeks-refuges from Asia and only after the '50s - '60s when the "white coal" (=water) becomes useless which for centuries had moved mills, workshops, industries and factories. This was the end of the indrustry and industrial history of the city. Many people of 'culture' have their name connected with the town.

Edessa .... city with 3000 years history ....etc...

Hi Georgios,
Very nice street scene from Edessa. Which has also a counterpartner in Anatolia (with the same name in antique period).
Very good pov and nice compo. Good and usefull notes. Two churches at left and background, two different architectures. Nice old cobblstone pavements.

good management of the light even if the sky was cloudy. Excellent POV from the lower part that it allows us to admire the architecture of the houses and the churches in the background. Beautiful photo, pleasant to admire, compliment!

Hello Georgios,
I like the perspective looking down the old street towards the dome of the church in the background. Also, the way the street is broken up by the different positions of the buildings. Soft natural tones with very good clarity.

A city view without people or cars, this is extraordinarily in the year 2008.
Great view, an excellent atmosphere, good composition and nice presentation, certainly with the blue colour of the wall and church in background.
