view from sea at Kavala city

Kavala, one of the most important cities of Greece, is situated in Northern Greece, 164 kilometers (100 miles) east of Thessaloniki. It is a beautiful city that, thanks to its pleasant climate, its fine beaches, and its modern hotels, attracts a large number of tourists and is an ideal place for vacations.

Built amphitheatrically on the hills, the city of Kavala extends its modern buildings to the sea. Kavala has beautiful large and sandy beaches. It is one of the rare cities that has a beach within it, with clean and usually calm sea. Its port receives commercial and tourist ships, as well as a fleet of picturesque fishing boats.

The products of this area are tobacco, marble, fish, and agricultural products. The tourist industry is very important for the area, with a very satisfying accommodation infrastructure.

Today Kavala is a city with modern architecture. The architectural remains of the 19th Century are some tobacco warehouses and a few nice mansions that, in the past, were characteristic constructions of the city.

The only part of the city where nothing has changed is the old district of Panaghia. Here the castle and the old houses reflect the various periods of Kavala's history.
