Photographer's Note
The Monastery of the Mother of God's Birth at Kleisoura, Kastoria, Western Macedonia, was founded in 16th century. It was restored in 18th century by the Athonite priest-monk Hesaias and stopped functioning as a monastery till 1950, due to monks' lack. In 1992 it was transformed to a convent and some nuns are living there.
From 1927 to 1974, when she was reposed, saint Sophia, a humble widow had lived there as a laywoman. She helped a lot of people through her advice, prayers and miracles, before and after her repose. In 2011 she was canonised by the Ecumenical patriarchate in Constantinople (Instabul).
