Photographer's Note

One of the scenery i saw during a stroll around the lake.

Kastoria Lake , one of the most beautiful lakes in Kastoria, Greece, embraces the town of Kastoria in west Macedonia and the west of Kastoria Prefecture.

At an altitude of 630 metres above sea level, kidney-shaped due to the hilly peninsula on which the town of Kastoria stands, the Kastoria lake is the remnant of an ancient lake of the Quartenary Period, 164 sq. km wide and over 50 metres deep.

Kastoria Lake is a karstic lake, tectonic in origin, which is believed to have been formed 10 million years ago in the Miocene.

Today Kastoria lake covers about 28 sq. km and has a maximum depth of about 9.5 metres. It is fed by nine local streams.

The lake of Kastoria freezes over for one to three weeks almost every winter, completely changing the picture of the landscape.

Hi Danos,
A very peaceful scene with subdued colours. The forms of the hills across the lake are well positioned in your composition. There is a fine balance in the picture.

Δάνο καλημέρα,
ονειρώδες το σκηνικό από την λίμνη της Καστοριάς με τον μοναχικό ψαρά και τους πελεκάνους επάνω στην βάρκα του να περιμένουν τον 'μεζέ' τους,ενώ οι γλάροι δίπλα του να πετούν λίγο μακρύτερα.Οι ομίχλη δημιουργεί ένα πολύ ενδιαφέρον σκηνικό.

This "first" entry of the year is a real masterpiece !
It reminds me to old paintings on the walls of our grandparents !
A silent and calm scenery, with well balanced ligth management and good layout.

A mid-winter fishing scenery, as the fog hang above the surrounding hills, danos.
Inspite of such light condition - the image has good clearity and depth.

Όμορφη νοσταλγική, αν και κάπως λυπημένος με τα χρώματα της εικόνας. Ψαράς στο φθινόπωρο λίμνη, τα πουλιά πάνω στο νερό και το κρύο ομίχλη πάνω στους λόφους. Εικόνα μου αρέσει πραγματικά.

The distance between the boat and the mountain is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the village. The cloudy sky is giving a good contrast to the colors. Have a nice day.

Hello Danos,

This is a poetic photograph, so it's impresiive to see calm lake on highland and surrounding atmosphere. It's interesting in residential area with a lot of houses. And, a man sailing boat on lake draws out a good effect in this image as well as the clouds which lie between mountains, too.

in this beautiful photo almost we can feel the cold of a cloudy day, in which the fog covers this beautiful landscape of the lake.
I like the dynamism and the vitality provided by the fisherman in his boat and the birds flying.

Hello Danos,

Having only visited Greece in summer or early autumn, this is not the image that I have of Greece. However, although this it is a mood that I have never experienced, it is beautiful, and one that I would like to see.
You have captured a lovely calmness; the boat in the centre of the lake, the birds gliding overhead, the clouds low and shrouding the town, which is sleeping in the greyness of the light. Bright sunshine is not necessary to create atmosphere.

A very nice image of the lake, the overall pinkish colour tone gives the image a sense of nostalgia from a past moment. I like the poetic depiction of the photo. The leaning tree and the foggy mountain in the BG set the beautiful atmosphere of the image.
