Photographer’s Note

On my way to Preveza, I decided to make a short deviation, and visit the beautiful island of Lefkada, for the first time in my life, even if it was only for a couple of hours.

After crossing the bridge that connects the island with the mainland of Greece, to the left someone can see a huge marina for big yaghts, but what really caught my eye was a small "canal" for smaller boats on the right of the bridge.

The problem with this shot, was that there was a soft wind blowing, that caused a slight movement of the boat, so I couldn't use very long shutter speed. I had to try something diferent than my usual settings for this kind of photo, and used a wide aperture (f/5.6) and a high ISO number (800). Even so, the shutter speed was 1 second. The boat was slightly moving from left to right and vice versa. I noticed that when the boat reached the "peak" of its movement f.e. from left to right and before starting to move from right to left, it remained practically still for a moment. That's when I pushed the button.

Lefkada in 12 hours, that´s a story i have written myself several years ago, one turn around the island with several stops on the great beaches (including a longer one at Porto Katsiki), it´s still a highlight in my mind.. the turn over that really astonishing brigde is also unforgettable..

you´ve done a great picture here, love those colors a lot.. a masterpiece in my opinion..

Hi, Hercules. The colours in this picture are really fantastic. The (fairly)long shutter speed has frozen the water which looks like a mirror. There is a very nice graduation of colours and a good contrast between the boat and the water.

This is a great shot with a fine reflection. The reflection add depth and balance to the scene. Your blue hour capture is fine with good balance between natural and artificial lighting. The colors are outstanding as is the sharpness and the scene.

Hi Hercules, despite the soft wind, you've composed a "soft" painting with your photographic skills. The colourful boat seems to be placed on a layer of ice and the actual blue hour looks like a "violet" hour, which make your photo a surreal one.

Blue-purple-red reflected in a ideal mirror. I wish I could find such intensity and variety of lights in the marina I usually go, but I'm afraid I'll have to wait untill I go To Lefkada! (:-)

Congratulations for your observation 's sense which allowed you to take the just photo at the right time and to have the net boat net .
The reflection is beautiful, I believe that I prefer the POV of the WS because the clearer light in the bottom brings one even bigger depth.
Two hours to Lefkada, it is not enough! It will be necessary to return !

Wonderful and eye catching.
You're right, if you look closely on the left side of the photo, you can see the rope blurring a little, indicating some movement.
You have captured stunning colours at the blue hour, and great sharpness, with pleasing colour saturation.

alot of light on the boat, even at this dark time.

What a brilliant shot! If you say there was some wind your reaction were perfect in capturing this. The depth of colour and sharpness are unbelievable! Even the post on the right has a characture of its own, as if it is guarding the little boat.

I just want to be sleeping on this boat! This has to be one of my favourite shots on TE.
