Photographer’s Note
The Madonna Faneromenis is the patron saint and holy protector of Lefkada. Originally built in the mid 17th century, the monastery of Faneromenis was partially destroyed in the earthquake of 1782 and then was gutted during the fire in 1896.
Never reconstructed in its original spledour the monastery is now a single aisled basilica with exceptional wood carved icon screen, made by Eustacious Prosalenti the younger. Sitting atop of the village Frynis the monastery, has staggering panoramic views.
