This time I show you something from and tell you about : Meganissi (means big island).
On photo : This is a typical small Greek boat I saw in the harbour of Vathy, main town on Meganissi. I liked the colours and the boat's surroundings.

[info about Meganissi, if you like!]
Meganissi is in fact a small satellite island of Lefkada. It's only 20 square kilometers 'big'. And it has 3 villages : Vathy (main town), Katomeri which is just 1,5 km southwards and uphill from Vathy, and Spartochori, about 5 km west from Vathy.
Villages in one sentence :
Vathy : A lovely small village build at the 'harbour' with some good fishtavernas (didn't try them unfortunatly)
Katomeri : charming traditional village with a labyrinth of little streets.
Spartochori : largest village on Meganissi, also lots of small streets.
In high season a ferryline departs every day from Nydri on Lefkada, to Spartochori (port often called Spilia as it is located in Spilia Bay) and Vathy.
From Nydri it's 25 minutes to Spilia + another 20 to Vathy. From Nydri the boat departs 7 times a day, the boat anchors at Spilia 5 times & 6 times at Vathy (last boat doesn't go to Spilia).
Price : €2,00 per person (one way if I'm right).
This ferryline is also maintained in low season, because the kids from Meganissi have to go to highschool on Lefkada island!!
On the south of Meganissi there is a big cave. In WOII there was a submarine, Papanikolis, hiding in there!! If it reminds me well, that was in 1940-41. The cave is named after the submarine. Unfortunatly I haven't seen it.
The lovely thing about the island is, that it's quite different from Lefkada, while it is still so close!
A day to spend on Meganissi should be enough to see everything, it's worth the visit.
Maybe see the map if you like, the shape of the island is kinda weird. The cave is on the southwest part, at the small isthmus.
Eh this is long enough :)

Very interesting informations about this island!! Just today I came back from one week in Cefalonia (difficult to rememebr how to wrire it in Greek!) and I enjoyed a lot its mosat famous beaches but also, and maybe more, its little beaches with a little taverna some umbrellas and nothing else. I think that Meganissi would be a jewel to spend some days in a little house near the sea!! I'll save your informations and I'll lokk in my Lonely Planet book about Greek Islands.
Oh, I was forgetting: I like your picture a lot!!

Firstly thank you for the great notes, if I ever come to Greece I will certainly go on this ferry. Your composition is lovely with the boat and the path in the foreground. The boat is the typical Greek blue colour that I love. Thank you for sharing.

It seems so quiet there. Thanks for all the info in the note. i am thinking of going back to the greek islands after a long long time. I was afraid that there could be too much people there now. But your lovely picture tells me there are some places left where one can find quietness. Thnaks for sharing.

very nicely composed and very sunny image. I like the depth of perspective in this picture. The boat is placed in a very strong point of the cadre and seems to be waiting for the next course. Well selected exposure parameters and well saturated colors make this scene very attractive! Nice work!

All the inhabitants of Eptanisa and Greece in general should thank you for the advertisment you are doing to our country. Great composition, with lots of interesting layers. Great positioning of the boat in one of the strongest points of your frame nice use of the diagonals and nice use of the rope as leading line. Impressive depth of field and a beautiful sky as the "cherry of the pie". Congratulations!

A nice photo of yours. The boat says: "Let me go! I need to go towards that island right away!". Good shot.

Ah, here it is the famous boat! Very nice shot dear Emiel. I like how you put the boat into your frame. Great depth and fine colors. Well done.

I like this composition, it's well balanced with strong colours. The boat is perfectly positioned in the image with the mooring rope coming out of the corner of the frame. The land on both sides directs the eye to the small mountain and the perfect sky.

This photo just makes you want to be there. The composition is good.

je parcours votre galerie et celle-ci m'attire plus particulièrement.
La mise au premier plan du bateau donne toute la dynamique à l'image, on est dedans. Les couleurs sont très belles.

hope you are doing well.
thought I'd cruise through your images .. this one has this three dimensional effect .. it really leaps out of me .. I think it is created by the angles and lines of the ropes and boat accented by the layers of coast and hills in the background.
