Vafkeri, a photo from Lefkada, Ionian Islands

Photographer's Note

Vafkeri is a small mountainous village at an altitude of 500m. Surrounded by lush greenery of pine trees, olive trees and cypresses, Vafkeri is situated in the centre of the island and has few inhabitants.

The village can be reached through a narrow road from Nidri that gets pretty winding at some point. From this road, you enjoy the view of the Ionian Sea and the countryside of Lefkada.

Hello Kamila,
The light falling on the houses along the hillside is marvellous. The mainly white walls and red roofs also create a fine diagonal nicely surrounded by thick vegetation. The sky has a hazy look that I would normally connect with the height of summer, not February, but in the foreground the clarity is very good.

This is a very beautiful view and a very good picture. All colours are warm and saturated, it is hard to believe this this picture was taken just a few days ago. This gives an impression of the perfect summer day!

Wonderful band of color and detail running through the shot in these houses, Kamila. Along with the ridge and the shadow, they make for a nice diagonal line in the composition. The setting itself is wonderful - it feels quite isolated from this viewpoint. Great light and exposure. Thanks!

I always think its a beautiful scene when a town is spread over a hilltop like this, it looks like something from ancient history. The colours in the houses works beautifully against the lush green landscape too, and there is wonderful lighting here. I really like the lower right corner in darkness like this.

Classic scenery of Ioanian island, beautiful Vafkeri so very picturesque on a very panoramic point with excellent view to the ocean, surrounded by ancient olive trees!
