Lefkada

Lefkada, or Leucas (Greek: Λευκάδα,Italian: Santa Maura) is a Greek island in the Ionian Sea on the west coast of Greece, connected to the mainland by a long causeway and floating bridge, as well as the island's capital city. The city of Lefkada, is at the north of the island, approximately 20 minutes by automobile away from Aktion National Airport. The Prefecture of Lefkada comprises Lefkada island plus the smaller nearby islands of Meganisi, Kalamos, Kastos, Madouri, Skorpios, and Sparti. It is the smallest prefecture of Greece in both land area and population (2001 census).

Lefkada Town (population: 6,903), has a pedestrianized main street, a marina, and bus access to Athens.

The east coast section of the island has small resorts of Lefkada, Nikiana and Perigiali, all north of the largest resort on the island—Nidri. It is set in a sheltered location with views across to Skorpios—owned by Aristotle Onassis, Meganissi and other small islands, as well as the Greek mainland. The main coastal road from Lefkada to Vasiliki runs through the town, although a bypass is being built. There are regular car ferries to Kefalonia, Ithaca and Meganissi.

20km south of Nidri is the resort of Vasiliki—a windsurfing center. There are ferries here to Kefalonia and Ithaca.

Η Λευκάδα είναι το τέταρτο σε έκταση ελληνικό νησί του Ιονίου πελάγους και των Επτανήσων. Βρίσκεται νότια της Κέρκυρας και πλησίον των ακτών της Αιτωλοακαρνανίας και στην αρχαιότητα πίστευαν ότι ήταν χερσόνησος αυτής. Έχει σχήμα ελλειψοειδές. Κυριότερες πηγές πλούτου ο τουρισμός, η ελαιουργία, αμπελουργία και η αλιεία. Από τις ανασκαφές που έκανε ο Δαίρπφελντ υποστηρίζει ότι το νήσι αυτό είναι η Ιθάκη του Οδυσσέα.

Σήμερα αποτελεί ομώνυμο νομό με πρωτεύουσα την πόλη της Λευκάδας. Κοντά στο νησί βρίσκονται οι μικρές νησίδες Μεγανήσι, Σπάρτη, Σκορπιός, Αρκούδι, Άτοκος, Καστός, Κάλαμος κ.ά. Παλαιότερα ονομαζόταν Άγια Μαύρα (Σάντα Μάουρα) από τον ναό της Αγίας Μαύρας που είχαν οικοδομήσει οι Φράγκοι κατά τον 13ο αιώνα στο ομώνυμο επιθαλάσσιο φρούριο.

Η Λευκάδα διαθέτει πολλές γραφικές παραλίες απαράμιλης ομορφιάς που χαρακτηρίζονται απο τα γαλαζοπράσινα νερά τους τα οποία τις κατατάσουν στις ομορφότερες της χώρας αλλά και ολόκληρης της Μεσογείου. Η διάσημη παραλία της Πόρτο Κατσίκι έχει κατά καιρούς ψηφιστεί απο διεθνή τουριστικά περιοδικά ως η ομορφότερη παραλία της Μεσογείου.

Fresh to see this evening scenery in rare color with not colouring so much to the sea where majority sea surface in grey color, silhouette of sitting people add relaxing feels, good exposure and distinct image to show the semicircle sun, good shoot.

Olá Danos, great shot of a sunset. The position of the sun disapearing is a splendid point of atraction along with the warm tones in the sky, but what makes the picture stands out from a regular sunset is this excellent foreground with the two benches. Strangely, the one on the corner is facing the opposite direction of the sunset, while the other gives a more poetic mood. Anyway, I like the interplay bettween the two.

Despite the hard condition with a strong sun in the sunset you managed to get the silouettes and the sharpeness very fine. I also like the lines around the sun far far away on the fading sky.

You are a real master in catching the light, colours and mood of these sunsets by the sea. You hadn't much graphic elements at your disposal to make the compo, but you used very cleverly the pier, the benches, the people, the poles on the water and and the sun to produce a very attractive photo, by drawing imaginary triangles that give an unexpected gentle sense of dynamism.

The law of thirds is well established in the frame. Beautiful tones, great details, especially by those who observe the event. Reflections in the water are wonderful, serene and indescribable.

Hi Danos,

The presence of the people on the benches has an effect of scale. The point of view takes our eyes toward the horizon which is giving depth to the photo. The light of the sunset is enhancing the colors of the sky and is giving a set of shadows to the picture. Have a nice day.

Sunset shots are always my favorite and this absolutely a very nice sunset picture which the sun almost going down and still created a warm pastel colours. I like the contrast colours against the shadows and both groups was really enjoying that moment. A beautiful shot Danos, i like it alot....tfs
