Lefkada

Lefkada, or Leucas (Greek: Λευκάδα,Italian: Santa Maura) is a Greek island in the Ionian Sea on the west coast of Greece, connected to the mainland by a long causeway and floating bridge, as well as the island's capital city. The city of Lefkada, is at the north of the island, approximately 20 minutes by automobile away from Aktion National Airport. The Prefecture of Lefkada comprises Lefkada island plus the smaller nearby islands of Meganisi, Kalamos, Kastos, Madouri, Skorpios, and Sparti. It is the smallest prefecture of Greece in both land area and population (2001 census).

Lefkada Town (population: 6,903), has a pedestrianized main street, a marina, and bus access to Athens.

The east coast section of the island has small resorts of Lefkada, Nikiana and Perigiali, all north of the largest resort on the island—Nidri. It is set in a sheltered location with views across to Skorpios—owned by Aristotle Onassis, Meganissi and other small islands, as well as the Greek mainland. The main coastal road from Lefkada to Vasiliki runs through the town, although a bypass is being built. There are regular car ferries to Kefalonia, Ithaca and Meganissi.

20km south of Nidri is the resort of Vasiliki—a windsurfing center. There are ferries here to Kefalonia and Ithaca.

Λευκάδα

Η Λευκάδα είναι το τέταρτο σε έκταση ελληνικό νησί του Ιονίου πελάγους και των Επτανήσων. Βρίσκεται νότια της Κέρκυρας και πλησίον των ακτών της Αιτωλοακαρνανίας και στην αρχαιότητα πίστευαν ότι ήταν χερσόνησος αυτής. Έχει σχήμα ελλειψοειδές. Κυριότερες πηγές πλούτου ο τουρισμός, η ελαιουργία, αμπελουργία και η αλιεία. Από τις ανασκαφές που έκανε ο Δαίρπφελντ υποστηρίζει ότι το νήσι αυτό είναι η Ιθάκη του Οδυσσέα.

Σήμερα αποτελεί ομώνυμο νομό με πρωτεύουσα την πόλη της Λευκάδας. Κοντά στο νησί βρίσκονται οι μικρές νησίδες Μεγανήσι, Σπάρτη, Σκορπιός, Αρκούδι, Άτοκος, Καστός, Κάλαμος κ.ά. Παλαιότερα ονομαζόταν Άγια Μαύρα (Σάντα Μάουρα) από τον ναό της Αγίας Μαύρας που είχαν οικοδομήσει οι Φράγκοι κατά τον 13ο αιώνα στο ομώνυμο επιθαλάσσιο φρούριο.

Η Λευκάδα διαθέτει πολλές γραφικές παραλίες απαράμιλης ομορφιάς που χαρακτηρίζονται απο τα γαλαζοπράσινα νερά τους τα οποία τις κατατάσουν στις ομορφότερες της χώρας αλλά και ολόκληρης της Μεσογείου. Η διάσημη παραλία της Πόρτο Κατσίκι έχει κατά καιρούς ψηφιστεί απο διεθνή τουριστικά περιοδικά ως η ομορφότερη παραλία της Μεσογείου.

An interesting perspective on photography: taking a picture of people taking a picture of the sunset - and producing a better sunset picture than they probably did!

The division of sky and sea is very even, and some part of me wants to say it didn't work, but overall I think it did, because the bulge of the bridge makes it less even. Nice!

Olá Danos, in the thumbnails made me remember the famous bridge of Venice...Marvellous sunset mood and silhouette that seems like a snake or a dragon, making its way over the water. Perfect placement of the bright circle in the right spot - it's a nice feeling, seeing people walking above the sun. The bridge handrail makes a nice graphism. Beautiful image.

Πραγματικα ειναι καταπληκτικη η ιδεα σου να "τοποθετησεις" τον ηλιο κατω απο την γεφυρα!Ωραια νυχτερινα χρωματα μετατρεπουν τους ανθρωπους σε σιλουετες και δινουν ζωη στο σκηνικο...

I use to go often there in the 60,s and early 70's, as we was living in Parga many years... Nice view of the bridge, somehow reminding the pictures of U Bein teak wood bridge in Myanmar, maybe because of the strong sunset color! Good idea to place the sun under the middle arch!

A well composed presentation, I won't even mention the warm colours as they are present in all sunset images but what is a bit unusual here is the use of the the audience as an element in composition...

Δάνο φανταστικό, αποτέλεσμα, φανταστικό σκηνικό, ειδικά με τις ανθρώπινες φιγούρες πάνω στην γέφυρα. Η τοποθέτηση του ήλιου σε αυτό το σημείο είναι η καλύτερη και βγαίνει πολύ ξεκάθαρα στην εικόνα.

Έχει πολλές ομορφιές η Λευκάδα. Είναι πολύ καλός προορισμός για διακοπές αλλά τώρα τελευταία πολλοί την αποφεύγουν λόγω της έντονης σεισμικής δραστηριότητας. Ακούγονται φήμες πολλές για συνέχιση αυτής της δραστηριότητας. Ας ελπίσουμε να πέσουν έξω!
Η φωτογραφία διακρίνεται για τον νοσταλγικό χαρακτήρα της.

Hi Danos,
A beautiful sunset caught in this composition, I like the luminosity and the smoothness of the warm tones of the Sun that contrast with the gray silverings of the water and of the sky.
The silhouettes of the cross-light are magnificent, and you have had a good eye to place the Sun between the arch of the bridge and the line of the horizon, it gives a great aesthetic result to the photo.

Σε ζηλεύω γιατί παρ' όλο που έχω περάσει από αυτή τη γέφυρα πολλές φορές, δεν κατάφερα να απολαύσω τέτοιο θέαμα. Η επιλογή της στιγμής (με τους φωτογράφους πάνω στη γέφυρα) και το προσεκτικό σου κάδρο την κάνουν ανεπανάληπτη. Λίγο η συμπίεση για το ανέβασμα στο ΤΕ σου τα χάλασε στον ουρανό αλλά σαφώς δεν ήταν στο χέρι σου να το διορθώσεις, αφού εξάντλησες απ' ότι βλέπω το όριο των 200kb.
Τα συγχαρητήριά μου λοιπόν.

Έξοχο το καντράρισμα του ήλιου από την σιλουέτα της γέφυρας με τους ανθρώπους πάνω σε αυτήν να απολαμβάνουν την βόλτα τους, πράγμα που δίνει μια ιδιαιτερότητα στο ούτως η άλλως πανέμορφο ηλιοβασίλεμα.

it could be just another sunset, but the bridge makes all the difference. It frames the sun perfectly and adds the movement with its curved form. It is placed excellently inside the frame and gives that poetic touch to the scenery with people walking on it...towards the sunset.
