Greek donkeys tend to be smaller in size than the donkeys we see in the UK but are often used for agriculture or to provide 'taxi' services for tourists around narrow, steep streets, often with inadequate shelter, rest or water provision.
It is one of the most recognized images of Greece: a donkey carrying an elderly villager along narrow, winding streets or dusty country lanes. But it could soon be a snapshot of a bygone era.

Greece's donkeys are disappearing fast. If current trends continue, experts warn, they will have all but vanished within the next two decades.

Czesc Kamilo,
Bardzo tez lubie robic zdjecia zwierzetom. Wychodza uroczo bo nie pozuja do zdjec. Ten portret osla wyszedl fantastycznie. Swietny focus na osla a tlo zamazane. Wspaniala ostrosc, contrast. Piekny portret. Podoba mi sie.

Hallo Kamila,
habe Mitleid mit diesen Esel, er schaut ein bisschen ungepflegt und mager aus. Kein Wunder, wenn in Griechenland diese Vierbeiner aussterben!
Ergehört sicher zu den Haustierrassen, die geschützt werden muss.

Hello Kamila,
Maybe one of the last few Greek donkeys turned up in the lasagne or kebab you had for lunch today!
This is a fine portrait of an animal I have learned to respect during my journeys of the Mediterranean area. They have served humans well for thousands of years and never - it seems to me - received the appreciation they deserve. I like the fine colours of this photo, the good exposure and the superb sharpness.

bardzo ladny,choc i uparty temat na zdjecie sobie wybralas:)ale oceniajac po rezultacie chyba wspolpracowal dobrze,bo efekt twojej pracy jest naprawde super.Podoba mi sie sam kadr.Swietnie sobie poradzilas rowniez z rozmyciem tla.No i kolory,ktore od razu zwracaja uwage i zdecydowanie wplywaja na pozytywny odbior zdjecia.Piekne zdjecie!

Hello Kamila,

Hopefully experts are wrong in their sad predictions ! Like in Corsica, donkeys provide still great services to inhabitants, especially in mountain... This one seems to have all the necessary traditional equipment, except the furniture or passengers ! Very good natural colors and sharpness focused on the animal.

Hi Kamila,
I have always found donkeys to be such beautiful placcid creatures. We have a group of them in my local town, but they do not work, they are there purely to entertain tourists and local children. When a new one is born, the local schools run contests to name them, hence why they have names such as "biscuits", "Buns" and "Raisins" :)

It is sad to hear that these can be treated so harshly, and this image shows perfectly how beautiful the animals are. Sad to hear that the clasic image you describe is being consigned to the past. Really nice shot, and love the DOF.
