Photographer’s Note
One of the most unexpected landscapes I 've seen in Greece, is this place, called "Κοκκινόπηλος" (="Kokkinopilos", means "Red Clay"), on the northeast edge of Preveza Prefecture, close to Aghios Georgios village, very close to the "borders" with the Prefectures of Ioannina and Arta. Although it's very close to the National Road between Arta and Ioannina, it's very well "hidden". While driving from Ioannina to Arta, and after you pass a parking place close to the the dam of Louros river, you have to be very careful to notice a red coloured path, climbing up a slope, making sort of a "zig-zag". Once you spot the path, this spectacular place is about a 5 minute walk (or climb) away. I wouldn't be able to spot it if I hadn't precise instructions by Spyros Vagelakis (Spyros60).
In this place with the incredible red-orange colour and the spectacular shapes caused by the erosion, the signs of human presence date back to the Prehistory, 250.000 years ago!
Close to this area, very close to the village of Aghios Georgios, you can also visit an imposing acueduct of the Roman Era.

A "Colorado" like place in Greece! you have a skill for discovering the most colourful spots in your country!
And knowing your preference for the red colour this place really is for you! (:-)
With such chromatic contrast between land and sky the spectacle is assured! A simple and essential composition and just for that with a high visual impact. That small tree at the top left is just in the right place.
"Strawberry - red fields forever..."
Have a nice day,
Donato

Hi Hercules, this place could be Mars for all I knew. The red clay is intense and combined with the unusual rock formations, reminds me of something you might see in the Australian desert near Ayers Rock. You really do find the most interesting little corners of your country. I must make a list of all these amazing places when I finally make a comeback there. TFS, Lisa.

Namaste Hercules,
I love the rich colour of your 'red planet'. Colour of soil is astonishing and finely contrasted with the fade sky. Light is perfect here. A great take.
Have a nice time.

hi, Hercules,
can't believe "Mars" in Greece! without those trees, you can send this to NASA as a wonderful catch from Mars! even during cloudy day, the "colors" come out good! good job!

WOW! A stunning bit of colour as provided by Mother nature. Even the red rocks of Utah don't quite match this red. Good find.

ciao Hercules,
davvero il pianeta rosso...
mai visto un posto cosi'...
ottimo scatto con un POV che ne aumenta la bellezza ed una buona saturazione che mette bene in contrasto il cielo nuvoloso con la terra.
