Parga

Parga (Greek: Πάργα), is a town and a municipality located in the northwestern part of Preveza in northwestern Greece being surrounded entirely by the prefecture of Thesprotia and is the only municipality in Greece that is surrounded by another prefecture. It is on a road linking Anthousa and GR-19. It is located about 40 km S of Igoumenitsa, SW of Ioannina, 65 km NW of Preveza, 90 km W of Arta and about 50 km NW of Vonitsa and about 60 km NE of Lefkada. The settlement dates back to ancient times and was called Ypargos.

Parga is situated on a hillside with a road linking Anthousa and GR-19. A promontory and a rocky hill with some types of pine trees with tall ones on a top is situated in the west and a small promontory with trees to the east. In Parga's bay, between the town beach and the harbour, there is an islet on which is a chapel and jetty, the island can be easily visited by swimming the short distance from the town beach. Lake Kalodiki is situated to the east and is like a pond which is used for frogs.

Parga is surrounded by mountainous countryside, which is rocky and bushy in the east while it is forested and grassy to the northwest.

A view of Paxoi and parts of southern Corfu can be seen and sometimes Lefkada as well.

In 1570, a Venetian fortress was established on the rocky headland to the north of the town, which separates Parga's bay and harbour from the long sandy crescent shaped Valtos beach, there are excellent views of both bays from the now ruined fortress. There are daily tourists from the island of Corfu and to Paxoi.

Η Πάργα είναι παραθαλάσσια πόλη που βρίσκεται στο βορειοδυτικό τμήμα του Νομού Πρέβεζας. Έχει πληθυσμό 2.022 κατοίκους και βρίσκεται σε υψόμετρο 139μ. Αποτελεί έδρα του δήμου Πάργας ο οποίος έχει πληθυσμό 3.846 κατοίκους. Αποτελείται απο τα δημοτικά διαμερίσματα Αγιάς, Ανθούσας, Λιβαδαρίου.

Έντονη νυχτερινή ζωή με δεκάδες σημεία "διασκέδασης" και με μουσική από κάθε είδος. Η Πάργα συγκεντρώνει το μεγαλύτερο ποσοστό των επισκεπτών της Ηπείρου κατά τους καλοκαιρινούς μήνες.

Olá Danos, Parga is quite diferent from Praga :)) Excellent composition with a good sequence of layers and a splendid balance bettween the boats and the wonderful set of houses in the background. The color of the water is quite attractive and the sky is also enhancing.

a nice hill with the trees and a good background for the left side to have some contrast to the colourful houses of the right side. The boats in the green water are together with this background well placed, good light impression.

Geia sou Dano, this is beautiful and layered take on Parga Bay. It's a fine hommage to this great place. I love the juxtaposition of the fishing boats with their tarpulins and the densely build village on the hill. Very pleasing and well executed work!

Good thing that I am less than 2 days of the beginning of my holidays, otherwise I wonder if this photo wouldn't make a bit frustrated.:-)

That is a great pleasure for me to see Parga, as I spent all my childhood there, from 1960 to 1974 i spend at leat 4 months a year there... We was living mostly on the other side in Valtos, my mother was working there.. around 1970 we moved to the village, and i see in your pictures my house!!!
Nice POV from the pontoon and the castle, in which i ve searched for treasure(it is supposed to bestill there!)... but i only found some Venitian coins and a metal bracelet .

Parga is great, wanted to go there on vacation, maybe I still will. It`s developing rapidly as a tourist destination, which is not all that good I take it.

Your picture has a strong compositional power. It is interesting to see how the picture has managed to turn that look at the front and rear.

The boats very well received by your slow, as well as all properties in the cliff, with a proper handling of light, which contrasts beautifully with the series of tones that occur. The intense blue sky, it is also precious.

Hello Danos,
the hard life of photographers in Greece: an endless fight with extreme light contrasts. Fortunately you could save the colours and transmit the atmosphere of a hot day in a lovely Greek harbour.
Since I could not follow your note due to my poor knowledge about Greek geography I looked for Parga in Google Earth. Using the Manage function you can add the coordinates to this picture: 39.28335 Lat, 20.40100 Long. Try it once!
