A shop window from the old town of Ioannina...The city is famous since centuries for its silversmiths and silverware. But what in my opinion makes this window really "live" are the displayed small figurines of characters of the folk shadow theatre called Karagiozis. This type of shadow theatre has its origins in old Persia (today's Iran) and travelled to the west with the Turks, where is very popular too. That's how it came in Greece.
The main charachter, Karagiozis, is the representation of the smart cool and poor guy who is trying to survive in the difficult hard world using whatever tricks the human mind can imagine! Unfortunatelly today only a very few of Karagiozis players are still working as they are dissapearing due aging and no new ones comes on the scene.
The small figures are now collective and decorative items!

This a very lovely coloured and composed photo. The most effective thing that makes me like your photos is probably i find a lot of my culture-my self- in them.Turks and Greeks, have lots of in common, but i beleive still not so good neighbours. And for Karagoz and Hacivat.Nice to see them in your photo.Legend attributes the character of Karagoz to a real person who lived during the reign of Orhan Bey (1324-1360). A mosque was being built in the Turkish capital of Bursa, and among the labourers were Karagoz and Hacivad, who kept dist-racting the others from their work with their humorous repartee. As a result, construction of the mosque took longer than expected, Also criticising the current authorities-sultan and his guys-.And when the angry sultan heard about their antics he had them both executed..

Well..:))) Both you and "mismet" already told everything about PERSONAL matters between ourselves. No need to repeat them again..)))
This picture tells to me more than to others of course. It shows our forgotten values. But this is natural. That's improvement.
This is a good shot both technically and emotionally George. Very very good colors and sharpness you have here. I wish I could be able to see the reproductions on the left a little bit more clear.
well done. Thanks for sharing...
