Photographer’s Note

I have written before that the lakeside road of Ioannina is an open air exhibition of sculpure. One of those sculptures has a whole in the center and through it you can see those special "resting places" for the birds of the lake.

I wanted to have both in focus, the sculpture and the birds, but that was not possible with one take, I had no tripod with me, and there wasn't enough light for a very small aperture that could give me enough depth of field. So, i took one photo focused on the sculpure ( ***SEE WORKSHOP 1*** )and one focused on the birds ( ***SEE WORKSHOP 2*** )and put them together in Photoshop.

Πολύ ωραίο το αποτέλεσμα της συγχώνευσης των 2 φωτογραφιών. Θα προτιμούσα να φαινόταν μεγαλύτερο μέρος του γλυπτού, ώστε να αναδεικνύονταν και αυτό όπως και η υπέροχη σύνθεσή σου με τα πουλιά στη λίμνη.

Kalispera, Hercules -

Nicely imaginative and creative here! I would moved just a little to the right, though, to get the bird platform away from the sculpture extrusion on the left; to me, it feels like it's crowding it. Otherwise a really nice composition.

And good use of Photoshop, too! You can't tell that it was two photos with different focuses.

Hello Hercules,
The touches of yellow bring warmth to the cool colours of this shot. It was certainly necessary for both foreground and background to be sharp in this composition and the combination of the two images has solved the problem very successfully.

Hello Hercules,

I was marvelling at your skill in keeping everything so sharply focussed! Thank you for your notes which have explained the process. I once did the same trying to take animals through the shape in the fence but never thought of condensing two shots!
I really like this because of its clarity but also because the sculpture makes a very original frame.
The birds are well positioned in the shot and the made even more exciting by the yellow reflections.

En los últimos días no se ha hablado tanto por aquí de lo que pasa en Grecia y todo se resume en "altercados hasta las dos de la mañana".

Por cierto, sobre la foto: por una parte me gusta mucho. Por otra parte, creo que debería hacer un curso de Photoshop o tener un Photoshop mejor que el que tengo.
